50 goals and 111 assists – Handing this PL veteran a fresh deal could do Chelsea a world of good

Chelsea should definitely offer midfielder Cesc Fabregas a fresh contract offer

According to the Guardian, Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is interested in renewing his contract at the club since his current deal expires at the end of the summer. The Spaniard made the move to Stamford Bridge in 2014 and has since gone on to lift two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup.

He has made a total of 132 Premier League appearances for them, scoring a total of 15 goals. The Blues have a policy of offering one-year contract extensions for players above 30 and that’s exactly what Chelsea should do in this case.

The London club have made a splendid start to life under new manager Maurizio Sarri this season and are yet to be beaten. Though Fabregas is yet to make a league appearance this season, the former Barcelona midfielder recently returned from injury and started the Blues’ win against Videoton in the Europa League.

The 31-year-old played a sublime ball over the top for Willian, who flicked a header on for Morata to score the winning goal and wrap up all three points.

The former Arsenal midfielder has been a phenomenal presence in the middle of the park for Chelsea over the years. A youth graduate from Barcelona before moving to Arsenal, Fabregas possesses a number of qualities that still qualify him as a top-class midfielder.

He is capable of playing in a number of different roles and systems. The 31-year-old is widely used as a central midfielder with the license to pull the strings in the midfield. But he is also capable of playing on the left flank. Fabregas also played as a striker during his time with Barcelona and this shows his versatility.

It’s hard to find a pass master like the Spaniard these days. The Chelsea midfielder’s passes are almost always inch-perfect and it would seem an embarrassment not to convert them.

He will definitely have a lot more to offer to this Chelsea side in terms of motivating the dressing room. Though his age will take a toll on his work rate and ability to play multiple games, the 31-year-old can still prove to be a useful squad member in the long run.
