5 Tweaks To The Current Chelsea Side That Will Help Them Retain The Title Next Year

Jose Mourinho

The Premier League is a unique footballing contest which gives even Champions very little time to rest on their laurels. Chelsea, the current English champions, will need to start building up a squad for the next season which is 11 weeks away. Jose Mourinho’s work ethic will not allow him any complacency and he will look to instil the same into the culture of the football club. Like their rivals, Chelsea have a wish list going into the summer transfer market. If Mourinho succeeds in getting his way, the London club will certainly be contenders for the league and the Champions League in the next campaign.

Chelsea are lining up some blockbuster moves as Mourinho and Abramovich will team up to hijack a few deals from fellow title contenders. Chelsea could enter the race for Edinson Cavani and upset Manchester United. Khedira’s move to Arsenal and Liverpool’s reported interest in Benteke are both endangered because Chelsea’s interest is growing.

A potential jaw dropping 4-2-3-1 might cement the top spot in the league continuing the blues’ dominance.

The tweaks and tune ups to the current team

  1. Petr Cech’s exit

The Chelsea goalkeeper’s departure looks more imminent now. He has been assured no game time in the future and knows he will be second to Courtois in the pecking order. Mourinho will be looking at somebody who can be the perfect sparring partner to Courtois next season. Rob Green and John Ruddy have both been linked with the club but we will certainly see a new Goalkeeper at Chelsea next season.

  1. Baba Rahman

Chelsea are planning to pay £20 million for the Ghanaian defender who is looking to leave Augsburg. Kurt Zouma has not yet proved to be the player he was expected to be. Mourinho will not gamble with his potential for too long. John Terry has one or two seasons left in him. Rahman is a buy for the future and he will grow next season under the apprenticeship of the skipper.

  1. Antoine Griezmann

Mourinho is set to shop in Atletico Madrid’s aisle once again to try and bring Griezmann to Stamford Bridge where he will partner Diego Costa upfront. If successful, Mourinho will field the strongest strike partnership in the league. Griezmann’s pace and dribbling skills will complement Costa’s physical presence in the box.

  1. Keeping Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard has been the best Premier League player this season if statistics, awards and plaques are to be believed. He is on a traditional path of exiting the league. Bale won the award and left for Madrid, the following year Suarez followed the suit. It will be surprising if no big club comes knocking for Hazard. Mourinho will have to fight tooth and nail to keep the Belgian at Stamford Bridge.

  1. Sami Khedira

Chelsea will look to bolster the defensive midfielder role. Nemanja Matic has been outstanding all season but could do with a world class partner. Mourinho is known to grind results out but holding on to the lead defensively more often than not. Chelsea finished 8 points ahead of Manchester City despite scoring 10 fewer goals. The signing of Sami Khedira from Real Madrid will make them stronger in that respect. More clean sheets, and more protection to the back four.
