5 goals, 4 assists – Burnley signing this 20-year-old Turkish league sensation would sort out their future in a key position

Back in May, Lancashire Live had claimed that Burnley were interested in signing Besiktas starlet, Guven Yalcin. However, the links have cooled down in recent months.

Guven Yalcin, 20, joined Besiktas from Bayer Leverkusen last summer on a four-year deal as a free transfer. He enjoyed a fine breakthrough season in Istanbul, scoring five goals and providing a further four assists in the Super Lig while playing in a variety of attacking roles under Senol Gunes.

Following his impressive debut season with Besiktas, Burnley should reignite their interest in the Turkish forward and attempt to sign him this summer.

The Clarets have already been busy in the transfer market after narrowly avoiding relegation from the Premier League last season.

They splashed out to bring striker Jay Rodriguez back from West Brom to Turf Moor. And Sean Dyche has also brought Erik Pieters, Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Ryan Cooney and Joel Senior in.

With no European football this time around, Burnley will be hoping to return back to their form of two seasons ago that saw them finish seventh. For that to happen, however, Dyche may need to get a couple of attackers more as the Clarets struggled to score goals in 2018/19.

With that in mind, Guven Yalcin could turn out to be a smart buy for Burnley. Whilst Yalcin naturally plays as a centre-forward, he tends to drift off to the left and can play on either wing. The Dusseldorf-born forward is very direct in the final third and always looks to take on the opposition full-back.

Aside from his versatility, the 20-year-old is really good at threading passes in behind the backline and combining with teammates in and around the final third.

Most importantly, the Turkish sensation is excellent in running the channels, which means the opposition defenders often to always be on their toes. Yalcin also has good close control skills which allow him to get out of tight spaces.

Off the ball, the youngster works extremely hard, and he can stop the opposition from building up play.

That should make him a great fit in Dyche’s system at Turf Moor. But most importantly, Yalcin will add the much-needed guile, directness and pace that should lift the Clarets attack next season.

Verdict

If Dyche can round off his summer transfer business with the addition of Yalcin, Burnley could find themselves in and around the top half of the table come May.
