The ignominy of being knocked out at home to 10 man PSG might be hard to take for a lot of teams but Chelsea can at least revel in the fact that they are on course to win the Premier League once again, they really should have won it last season but nevertheless, Jose Mourinho’s team 5 points ahead of Manchester City with a game in hand. They have 11 games remaining in the season and after winning the League Cup, they could well be on their way to another trophy but to ensure that they need to be careful and not slip up.
The Premier League is probably the most competitive league since any club can pull a rabbit out of the hat and defeat another, we saw the same when Burnley drew with Chelsea a few weeks ago. We look at 5 important games for Chelsea and winning those can bring back the Premier League trophy to Stamford Bridge.
Vs. Southampton (Home)
Chelsea face Southampton, who seem to be getting their groove back, at home this season. Chelsea have just been knocked out of the UEFA Champions league and they would need to be geared up to ensure that they do not have another meltdown like they did against PSG. This game might come a little too early for them since they played in midweek, but a win against a quality Southampton side will give them the fillip to continue their Premier League charge.
Vs. Hull (Away)
The game right after the Southampton one, Hull City are slowly moving out of trouble and could be a tough opponent for the Blues. Steve Bruce recently signed a new contract and his team will be amped and ready to take on the Premier League leaders.
Vs. Man Utd (Home)
The first real tough game of their remaining fixtures or a foregone conclusion? Manchester United might not be playing the best football but would they be willing to roll over and let Chelsea stroll to the title or beat them and give their rivals Manchester City a chance? Plus United will be looking to get back into the top 4 and qualify for the Champions League, so many subplots, this game is on the 18th of April, make a note.
Vs. Arsenal (Away)
The London derby, no one can really say what will happen, Chelsea aren’t playing great football as of now, Arsenal are doing much better in attack and their players seem to be hitting form but have a problem called injuries as more and more players keep getting injured for Arsenal. They too will be looking to make it into the Champions League and could be a stumbling block for the Premier League leaders.
Vs. Leicester (Away)
Chelsea could already wrap up the title if they win against Leicester, they would be facing the Foxes after the derby and would have only had 3 days of rest. The Foxes themselves would be looking to score a few points from their home game but Chelsea would be tough opposition and this could be the game which sees the Premier League crown return.
