Who Is This £4m Liverpool Target?

Liverpool’s first transfer of the season would have been the Serbian Grujic but they could be in line for making another signing for a youngster. This time a little closer to home and a player from the team who have taken the Premier League by storm, Leicester City.

The Reds and a number of other Premier League clubs have been tracking the progress of England’s U20 captain, Ben Chilwell and the youngster, who has just 18 months left on his contract could well be looking for a move away from Leicester City as Klopp is considering a £4million bid for the defender.

Chilwell hasn’t featured in Leicester’s first team and that could well be one reason why he would be willing to take a move if he is guaranteed first team football in the Premier League.

Leicester’s loss = Liverpool’s gain?

The youngster plays as a left-back and is currently on loan at Championship side, Huddersfield. The 19-year-old has made seven league appearances for the club. Chilwell has attracted a lot of attention for his performances and was in manager Claudio Ranieri’s plans at the start of the season and even traveled with the squad in preseason.

He was then loaned out but he could well be making a return to the club after the injury of Jeff Schlupp. The young left-back is a product from the Leicester academy and was even awarded the 2014-15 Academy Player award by the club.

Chilwell has been tracked by Arsenal as well and he could provide some problems for Leicester as a number of clubs are after his signature. The 19-year-old has been monitored by the Liverpool staff for a while and he could be snapped up by the team in January.

Jurgen Klopp is a close friend of the Huddersfield manager David Wagner and the Championship side’s manager did have a few words of encouragement for Chilwell, though he still remains a Leicester City player.

Chilwell has great ability on the ball and has a cool head on his shoulders; he has great technique and also an engine which allows him to bomb up and down the flanks. He is able at going and joining the attack and is actually a good defender as well, which should please Jurgen Klopp.

The German would be looking for cover for his left-back slot with only Alberto Moreno and Jose Enrique fit and the highly impressive Joe Gomez out for the season with a long term injury, Chilwell would be an automatic selection at the list in the match day squad.

Leicester did reject an offer from Arsenal in the summer for the highly rated left-back and Liverpool would have to increase the bid from the original £3.5 million bid but it would be well worth it for the defender.
