47 Goals In 99 Games – What Would This Super German Offer Chelsea If The Move Happens?

Marco Reus is one of the best players in the world at the moment. There have been a lot of rumours about the future destination of the attacker as he is yet to extend his current contract with Borussia Dortmund.

Gotze and Reus
Marco Reus

He missed out on the German World cup winning team after picking up an injury in one of the friendlies before the world cup and has had a stop start season at Dortmund, he has picked up a couple of injuries for Dortmund as well but when Reus is fit, he is one of the best wide men in the Bundesliga if not the world.

A deal might be struck between Chelsea with Borussia Dortmund which would mean that Andre Schurrle would move in the opposite direction, while trading one winger for another, what could Marco offer to a Chelsea team that already has the likes of Oscar, Hazard, Willian and Salah?

The German work ethic

Apart from being a brilliant player when going forward, Reus is a hard worker along the lines of Andre Schurrle and would fit perfectly in the Chelsea team, Chelsea are reliant on Eden Hazard to be the one outlet on the wings who can run at opponents with speed.

Reus would be the other player in the squad who can do that, Willian, Salah and Schurrle are not the best when it comes to running straight at opponents. Reus can do that, also Reus has a good scoring record for Dortmund; Reus has scored 47 times in 99 games for Borussia Dortmund since joining them in 2012. Schurrle has scored 11 goals in 54 games, so Reus scores almost every other game while Schurrle scores once in every 5 games for Chelsea.

In this Chelsea team he would probably replace Willian who has scored 5 goals in 53 games since joining the Blues, of course the other thing you get from Willian is his tremendous work ethic, he is the winger who does most of the hard work. Willian does close defenders down and is willing to run back and try and retrieve the ball more than the striker or Hazard at Chelsea.

Reus would have to emulate that work ethic at Chelsea but it would not be a hard thing for him to do, he is used to playing a more counter attack based game for the Dortmund team and has pace on his side, he can also play the lone striker role if the team needs it but he would not provide the same physical dimension that Costa provides, though his movement might be better than the Spaniards. Reus joining any club would make them a formidable unit to fear but joining this Chelsea team would make them almost unbeatable.

Mourinho likes hard working players, even Diego Costa does a lot of the “dirty” work even though he is a striker, a front three of Hazard, Costa and Reus would put fear into any side facing the Chelsea team and although Schurrle and Willian are world class players, Reus would definitely be an upgrade on the pair.
