40 goals, 15 assists – It is high time for Celtic to offer a new contract to this key £3m attacker as soon as possible

Celtic Opinion – The Hoops should offer new contract to Scott Sinclair

According to a report in Daily Record, Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed that Scott Sinclair is in talks over a new deal at the Parkhead.

The winger is out at the end of next season and could agree on an offer that will extend his stay at the club. (h/t Daily Record)

Sinclair originally joined Celtic in the summer of 2016 from Aston Villa for
£3m. (h/t Guardian) Since then, he has been a regular figure in the team, be it under Brendan Rodgers or now under Lennon.

Here’s why the Hoops would be right in offering the 30-year-old a new deal as soon as possible:

Sinclair is one of the key players in this Celtic team

Even though Scott Sinclair’s form hasn’t been great since the turn of the year, he still remains to be an important player in this Celtic team. The winger has performed at a certain level that has allowed him to keep his place in a Championship winning team in the past few seasons.

Since arriving at the Parkhead, the former Manchester City man has scored 40 goals and provided 15 assists in 96 league appearances, which is pretty decent for a wide player.

Hence, keeping the current form out of the way, Celtic should think long-term and offer him a new deal. At 30, Sinclair is now experienced enough to probably handle the pressure situations in a much better way.

Furthermore, with an expected overhauling of the squad in the summer window, it would be better from the Hoops’ point of view that their senior players get tied to long-term contracts.

Conclusion

Everything points towards the conclusion that Celtic are right in initiating the contract extension talks with Scott Sinclair. The next step would be to make the player agree on that.
