Why Nottingham Forest Should Tie Down Kieran Dowell Permanently
20-year-old Everton midfielder Kieran Dowell is having a terrific time of things at Nottingham Forest, and despite Everton’s good past record of blooding their young stars, it appears that the current situation at Goodison Park may change that.
With that in mind, players may look elsewhere for first-team football going into their early twenties and Dowell may well consider staying at Nottingham Forest on a permanent contract should such a deal be offered.
From Forest’s point of view, they would surely love to keep the attacking midfielder who has now started 9 Championship games and scored 4 goals, including a hat-trick. He has also created one assist and is visibly getting better with every single passing week.
Players of his ability, while not necessarily needed by their parent Premier League clubs, can be hard to find, and as the club already providing him with first team opportunities, Forest are in a very advantageous position as such.
Their season hasn’t gone the way most fans would have hoped it would and they lost their first bitter battle of the season with Derby County. However, with players such as Dowell getting better all the time, they may yet improve as the season goes on.
Without players like him though, who they have been lucky to get hold of, Forest could yet struggle once again and they must pounce immediately on any chance they have of tying down such a talent.
As it stands, Dowell will be at the City Ground until the end of May to see out the Championship season and any potential play-off participation from Forest before heading back to Goodison Park to attempt to impress whoever is in charge of the team matters on Merseyside by then.
But, just as was the case with Patrick Roberts at Man City, even those with great potential and great confidence find themselves so far down the pecking order that they simply have no chance of getting into their parent club’s Premier League XI.
In Roberts’ case, he chose another season-long loan at Celtic and for Dowell as well, it may well be that another season in the Championship would do him the world of good, with a Premier League moving coming thereafter. This way, he will be properly ready for the challenge and the club which has truly given him a chance in the game can perhaps take some profit from his sale.
