Four Championship Players Who Are Out Of Contract In The Summer

Wily Premier League and Championship managers are always on the lookout these days for a bargain, this despite the untold wealth in the English game due to TV money.

This is either because of the enormous and frankly ridiculous wages paid to players and agents, or it’s the greed of owners who want to keep the bounty for themselves. To be fair, it’s both.

Anyway here are 5 quality Championship players who become free agents this summer and could be snapped up:

Andy Yiadom (Barnsley)

Around a year ago we wrote on these pages about the underrated Andy Yiadom and he continues to fly just under the radar.

He’s perhaps no world-beater but is consistent at this level and has enough ability to be trusted as a first choice Championship right-back for a top-half side.

Ryan Fredericks (Fulham)

The Fulham full-back has designs on the Premier League with West Ham United (not guaranteed to be there of course) showing an interest of late.

He is still in the side at the moment, however Cyrus Christie has been signed and looks like being Fredericks’ very capable replacement so there’ll be a tug of war for his services come June and July you can bet.

Alan Hutton (Aston Villa)

It’s a right-back-athon in here! Hutton, who has filled in at left-back for Steve Bruce too, has been excellent for Villa in recent times but due to club policy will not be offered a new contract in the summer.

He is 33 now but what he lacks in future years in the game he makes up for in experience and he would make an excellent free signing for someone in June.

Sammy Ameobi (Bolton Wanderers)

The former Newcastle man has reached a new level this season playing for a struggling side and it’s even up for debate now whether he could yet make it at Premier League level.

At the very least one of next season’s promotion contenders should snap him right up and he would not be out of place going for the title at this level now.
