34 passes per 90 mins – Tottenham would bag a massive coup by signing this 22-year-old defensive beast

Tottenham opinion: Why Tottenham should make a move for Robin Koch

There is not much anyone can say about Tottenham that hasn’t already been said. But they’ve changed some of that by reaching the Champions League finals and are set to face Liverpool. It was a brilliant game and that second half showed the world what they can do without their top goalscorer.

However, it also showed just how good their centre-backs are and why Toby Alderweireld has been heavily linked with moves away. The Belgian was at his destructive best, proving to be a brilliant defensive wall, especially in the second half.

He looked every bit a world-class star. Now, at the age of 29, with a mere £25 million release clause to his name, the Belgian could move on (Telegraph).

That gives manager Mauricio Pochettino a small headache but he does have Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez. With Jan Vertonghen getting old, the club need a replacement. It has to be the right man and doing that is easier said than done.

To make things even worse, Jan Vertonghen will also become a free agent in the summer of 2020. Football London believes that there is a solution to that issue. It reports that the club have targeted Robin Koch as a potential replacement for either centre-back.

A talented centre-back, the German international has become a key star for SC Freiburg, which has previously produced the likes of Caglar Soyuncu. They have a history of producing good defenders and Koch is exactly that. Tall, strong and a great aerial presence, the 22-year-old has the mentality and physicality to survive the Premier League.

Furthermore, he’s proven to be a solid and consistent presence at the back, which has seen Koch miss just 10 games in the league. All ten have either been thanks to injuries or rest after said injuries, with manager Christian Streich opting not to burden the young centre-back.

Add that to his passing accuracy which sits around 81% and the fact that he averages 34 passes every 90 minutes, shows just how comfortable he is with the ball. All in all, it makes him a great option for Tottenham in the near future.

Conclusion

Tottenham will be looking for world-class players but for a club like theirs, they need to tone down their expectations. Someone like Robin Koch is a perfect option and the 22-year old‘s versatility and capability to play across the defensive line and as a midfielder will help the club.
