32 Goals In 49 Games: This Celtic Superstar Would Be A Massive Signing For Marseille If They Could Pull It Off

Why Moussa Dembele Will Be A Massive Signing For Marseille

Celtic hotshot Moussa Dembele is a man in demand. To be fair, he has been a man in demand for a couple of years now and following his exceptional debut campaign for the Hoops last season, his stock has continued to rise.

The Frenchman was captured by the Scottish domestic treble winners for free last summer, from Fulham, after his contract with the London club expired. They had beaten several European heavyweights for his signature and Brendan Rodgers’ side reaped huge benefits from his transfer.

Dembele finished with an excellent tally of 32 goals from 49 games in all competitions last season, playing a starring role in Celtic’s unrivaled domestic domination as they won the Scottish Premiership, the League Cup and the Scottish Cup, remaining unbeaten in all domestic competitions throughout the season. The tally would have been so much more impressive if not for a thigh injury late in the season, which kept him out of action for close to two months.

His explosive campaign has just gone on to enhance his burgeoning reputation, which has resulted in more interest in the forward.  According to Sky Sports, French club Olympique de Marseille are interested in signing the young hotshot. The French giants are in the market for a new striker ahead of the new season and have narrowed their search down to the Celtic marksman.

Marseille had a strong season last time around, as they finished 5th in Ligue1, behind Olympique Lyon who finished 4th. Manager Rudi Garcia is intent on strengthening his ranks ahead of the upcoming campaign so as to challenge the likes of Lyon and OGC Nice for a spot in the Champions League.

They have made strong strides in that direction, having signed French star Dimitri Payet from West Ham United back in January itself. They have followed it up by converting the loan deals for Newcastle United’s Florian Thauvin and Tottenham Hotspur’s Clinton N’Jie into permanent moves. And they have also snapped up experienced forward Valere Germain from French champions AS Monaco as well.

With such a strong supporting cast, all Les Olympiens are lacking is a star striker who can deliver the goals at the top on a consistent basis. And by signing Dembele, that issue will be taken care of, in some style!

The 20-year old has proven to be a natural goal-scorer during his days with Fulham and now with Celtic as well. If Garcia and his club manage to take him to the Stade Velodrome, they will have one of the most sought-after stars in European football at the club. Imagine the kind of statement that is going to make.

It is not going to be easy, to convince Dembele to move to Marseille, taking into consideration the numerous big clubs interested in him. The fact that Marseille will be playing in the UEFA Europa League, while Celtic will be in the UEFA Champions League (provided they get past the playoff stages) is only going to make this signing more difficult to achieve. But if Marseille manage to pull it off, it will be massive for the club and it will put them on a path to achieve the heights from their glorious past.
