3 Wingers Chelsea Should Target In January

With 22 points from 11 games, Antonio Conte’s Chelsea are well on their way to book a place in the top-4 in the points table come the end of the season but they are lagging behind the league leaders Manchester City. The Blues are the defending champions in England but the lack of quality and depth in the squad has surely hurt their chances of retaining the title this season.

Conte is desperate for some additions in January and is ready to splash the cash just months after making some sparkling additions to the squad in the summer transfer window. The lack of width in the squad has been pushing them down and here are 3 goal scoring wingers that Chelsea should look to sign in January, to solve their problems:

Lucas Moura (PSG)

One of the many unhappy players at the French capital right now, Moura was reportedly offered to Chelsea earlier this month. The Blues have Willian and Pedro as the only outright wingers and with Conte showing no faith in either, Lucas might be the man to turn their fortunes. Known for his blistering pace and skills, the Brazilian winger has a goal and an assist in just 71 minutes of football this season and at 25, deserves more game time. The addition of the likes of Mbappe and Neymar have pushed him down the pecking order and surely, he will be easy to lure to the Bridge, for cheap, in January.

Angel di Maria (PSG)

Like Lucas, former Manchester United flop Angel di Maria is also struggling for game time at the Parc des Princes this season. The 29-year old got just 53 minutes of UCL football this season and is unsettled at the club. Though his previous stint in England was a failure, the £36m rated winger has all the qualities to be a success there and would be a worthy investment for Chelsea.

Being a left-footer, he will add diversity to a Chelsea attack that lacks one while his understanding of the game and technical ability will improve the club’s productivity in front of goal, giving Conte a better shot at winning silverware this season.

Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

One player who Chelsea were desperate for even in the summer, is Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez. Having decided not to extend his stay at the Emirates, Sanchez might be offloaded by Arsenal in January as they’d look to avoid losing him for free at the end of the season. Sanchez is currently rated at £58.5m.

He was one of the most productive players in Europe last season and an attacking unit of Sanchez, Hazard and Morata will trouble most defenders, even before the ball is kicked. He is desperately wanted by Pep Guardiola at Etihad but Chelsea and Conte should surely make a move for him and fight Manchester City, who already have a plethora of attacking talent at their disposal.
