Three Value For Money Players Who Liverpool Should Target

Liverpool look like a rejuvenated side after three consecutive wins, over Huddersfield, Maribor and West Ham United. Especially after their 4-1 loss to Spurs at Wembley last month. The unexpected early return of Sadio Mane has also been an encouraging sign for the Reds with Adam Lallana also said to return for the game against Southampton this weekend.

Liverpool look like they could kickstart a late title challenge based on their current form and could really strengthen their squad in the January transfer window to give it a push. Jurgen Klopp has achieved some great results with an inherited squad and has made some amazing business since last summer with signings like Mohamed Salah and Oxlade Chamberlain.

The January window could be another chance for the German to do some great business with some key positions requiring immediate attention. Here’s a look at three value for money players Liverpool should sign in January.

Toby Alderweireld

The Belgian centre-back has been a pillar at the back for Spurs over the last couple of seasons and has proven to be a world-class defender since he joining Tottenham. Not only is he defensively sound but also possesses great leadership qualities and can be an upgrade on the inconsistent Dejan Lovren, quite easily.

The Croatian defender endured a difficult set performances last month and has been replaced by Ragnar Klavan in the first-team. Alderweireld only has two more years left on his contract but is looking for a way out of the London club.

The Belgian is demanding a significant pay rise from Spurs but the North London club is yet to offer him a new contract. With plenty of experience and the player wanting out, Klopp should really have a go at signing the Belgian.

Thomas Müller

The 28-year-old German striker who is currently in his 10th season with Bayern Munich has proven to be one of the best strikers in the world. Müller also played a major role in Germany’s World Cup glory and has constantly been linked with other major European clubs over the years.

Maybe the time has come for the £45m rated German to move away from Germany in search of a new challenge. And Liverpool could be the perfect destination. Of course, he might not come cheap but he will definitely be value for money.

With Lewandowski doing a great job and Bayern Munich looking at other young strikers in the market, this would be the right time for Liverpool to approach the Germans for Müller.

Leon Goretzka

The Schalke midfielder will be a free agent at the end of the season and there are plenty of clubs out there desperate to sign the 22-year-old. But Goretzka is a better fit at Liverpool, especially with the Merseyside club expected to lose Emre Can.

According to various reports, the German midfielder has turned down Barcelona and wants to play under Jurgen Klopp. Klopp won’t find a better replacement for Emre Can in the current market than Leon Goretzka.
