Three Transfers That Rangers Could Complete In The Summer

Rangers’ transformation under Pedro Caixinha is about to start. In some ways, it already has since the Portuguese manager has shown his willingness to bring young players such as Myles Beerman and particularly David Bates into the starting XI at Ibrox.

It goes without saying that major changes are needed at the club this summer in terms of the playing personnel, with the gap between themselves and Celtic looking as wide as ever right now. Clint Hill, Philippe Senderos, and others will leave anyway, but who else can be expected to come and go? Here we look at three possible transfers at Rangers:

Ryan Jack (from Aberdeen)

Naturally, the focus will be on bringing in new defenders at Ibrox this summer with Hearts’ Callum Paterson already a top target, but the bigger picture is that they need a better quality of defensive midfield player to stop opposition teams dead in their tracks. Ryan Jack fits the bill perfectly for Caixinha and co in this regard; he is fit, plays box-to-box, can pass and can break up play. He even chips in with the occasional goal.

Aberdeen will of course be very keen to retain Jack after their Scottish Cup final appearance in May, though he will be out of contract immediately afterwards. Should the Gers manage to get the Dons captain for free it would be a fantastic piece of business.

Graham Dorrans (from Norwich)

The former West Bromwich Albion man is under contract until 2019 at Carrow Road and may well command a big fee. The money issue is something Rangers will have to get over but surely they should attempt to find a way to get the deal done. In terms of his overall quality, not many will disagree that he would improve Rangers hugely and would therefore be a great signing.

Dorrans grew up as a Rangers fan and, as has been the case in the past with many a Rangers player. An upbringing as a Bear and having the club’s actual interests at heart can make a huge difference. Therefore, Rangers wouldn’t be getting a player who put in 70-80% effort. Rather they would have a player who would always be giving as close to 100% as is physically possible at all times.

Barrie McKay (to Nottingham Forest)

McKay, although undoubtedly talented, has been disappointing against the better teams and has produced very little output against Aberdeen and Celtic. This is not lost on Caixinha, though McKay is highly thought of by former manager Mark Warburton and so, although Rangers will not let him go to Warburton without a considerable fee, a deal looks possible at some stage.
