Antonio Conte’s Chelsea dropped a couple of points in their game against Burnley at the weekend but the loss at Anfield for Spurs meant that the Blues opened up a 10 points gap over their rivals in the points table. The manager, however, has been looking to improve his squad in the summer and has been linked with some of the best players in Europe.
One such player who is constantly linked with a move to the Bridge is PSG star Marco Verratti. The Italian is right up there with the best in the business in his position and is wanted by a number of clubs. He has recently revealed that he would find it hard to reject an offer from Barcelona amid interest from Chelsea. If the Spanish giants decide to lure him away, Chelsea will have to look elsewhere for midfield additions. So here are 3 such replacements that can come good for the Blues this summer:
Arturo Vidal (Bayern Munich):
The Chilean international is among the best players in the position at the moment and is reportedly on the move in the summer. He is unhappy with his situation at the Allianz Arena at the moment and is wanted by a number of clubs including Barcelona and Chelsea and Antonio Conte should do whatever it takes to get him to the Bridge if he misses out on Verratti. He has all the attributes that will make him a star in England and a midfield of N’Golo Kante and Arturo Vidal can easily give Chelsea yet another Premier League title.
Geoffrey Kondogbia (Inter Milan):
A transfer target for Chelsea since the start of the season, Kondogbia is a slightly less trusted asset for Chelsea. But make no mistake. He has immense potential. At just 23-year of age, the French international is one of the most exciting players in his position at the moment and is a perfect fit for Chelsea. Conte is looking for a player with an equal balance between defense and attack and Kondogbia is as good a player as Conte can find this summer. He is a bit raw and needs to be nurtured, but if Conte can get him, he can surely turn out to be a top class player for the Blues for years to come.
Blaise Matuidi (PSG):
Another PSG star that Chelsea can target if they miss out on Verratti is Blaise Matuidi. Linked with a big money move to Manchester United before the start of the season, Matuidi is a slightly tougher proposition to lure out of France in the summer but he is one player who can make Chelsea close to untouchable. He is among the best in Europe at the moment and will walk into most top sides in the Premier League and he will be a perfect partner to N’Golo Kante in the midfield. The French connection in the midfield can also have its own effects in the squad.
Do you think Chelsea will be able to land any of these stars in the summer?
