3 players Chelsea should look to sign in the winter transfer window

Chelsea have started the new Premier League season with a bang, winning the first five games under new manager Maurizio Sarri.

It’s highly impressive what Sarri has managed to do with this Chelsea team in such a short space of time, with the players not only dominating possession but doing more with the ball.

However, the season has a long way to go and Chelsea must aim to continue winning games.

As the term progresses, injuries, fatigue and suspensions will come into the picture and the Italian tactician should look to improve the squad in January to keep his forces fresh for the second half of the campaign.

That being said, here are three players Chelsea should look to sign in January.

Suso (AC Milan)

Suso has made waves at AC Milan since arriving from Liverpool three seasons ago and will be a fantastic attacking option for Sarri to have in his squad.

Suso

Suso, 24, is adept at both creating and converting the chances and would be the ideal complement for Eden Hazard due to his pace, dribbling skills, agility and flair.

And while he might be expensive, the Spaniard is slowly entering his prime and Chelsea would have a reliable backup for Pedro if they sign Suso in January.

Saul Niguez (Atletico Madrid)

Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez has been one of the sought-after midfielders in Europe and he will be a perfect fit for Sarri’s style of play at Stamford Bridge.

Saul Niguez

At 23, Saul will only get better and looks destined to become one of the best midfielders in the coming years. He not only has the vision and the guile of a playmaker but also has the positioning sense of a central midfielder.

The Spaniard has a remarkable eye for goal, exquisite passing range and is a surprise element in the air despite not possessing a towering frame. Saul clearly has his best years ahead of him, which Sarri should look to benefit from.

Dries Mertens (Napoli)

Alvaro Morata has been wasteful for Chelsea this season and hasn’t been able to deliver the goods on a consistent basis, which could force Sarri to think about a possible replacement in January.

While Napoli’s Dries Mertens won’t be a straight replacement for Morata, he would be a fantastic addition for Chelsea. He might be 31 but with age comes experience and the Belgian has plenty of European experience.

Napoli won’t want to lose Mertens midway through the campaign but the Blues should be willing to splash a lot of money if they are to lure the diminutive attacker to Stamford Bridge. The Belgian is a lethal finisher and could be worth a shout in January.
