3 top class signings Arsenal should make in the summer, including Chelsea superstar

Arsene Wenger

Three Signings Arsenal Should Make In The Summer

The transfer window will open in the summer and that would inevitably lead to Arsenal fans urging the club to make new signings. The January transfer window ended quite well for the Gunners. Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester United saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move to Arsenal in a swap deal.

Arsenal also broke their club record by signing Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund for £56m.

As if the signing of Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang weren’t enough, playmaker Mesut Ozil gave the fans a surprise treat when he signed a contract extension with the Gunners until 2021.

Arsene Wenger has received a lot of criticism due to the club’s poor performances this season. But all the rage disappeared when the Gunners put Everton to the sword on Saturday, with new signing Aubameyang scoring his first goal for the club on his debut and Mkhitaryan sizzling on his home debut by supplying 3 assists.

Although the team now seems to have packed a punch in the attack department, there is still a lot of work to be done before the Gunners can again be termed as realistic title challengers.

Here are three players Arsenal should sign in the summer of 2018. For now though, Wenger has to do everything to get the club a top-four finish this season so that he succeeds in attracting these top players.

David Luiz

Arsenal’s defensive problems were cruelly exposed when they shockingly lost 3-1 to Swansea City last week. And it would be silly if Wenger didn’t address the defence when the transfer window reopens. The Gunners were reportedly interested in signing Chelsea defender David Luiz last month but nothing transpired.

The Brazilian has been out-of-favour at Chelsea lately and would prefer moving to Emirates. Luiz has bags of experience playing in the Premier League and would certainly strengthen Arsenal’s defence in the summer. The centre-back’s reading, positioning and aggression are top notch and Wenger, if given a chance, shouldn’t hesitate in bringing the player to Arsenal.

Jan Oblak

Petr Cech has been fantastic since signing for the Gunners from Chelsea in 2015. But the shot-stopper has come under a lot of fire for his performances this season, especially after his howler in Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat at Swansea. For now, Cech would be the undisputed No.1 but if the Gunners don’t address the goalkeeping problem in the summer, it can cost them badly.

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is reportedly on the North Londoners’ radar and it is not surprising to see him be tracked. Oblak is one of the top goalkeepers across Europe and signing him would be a massive coup for the Gunners.

Jorginho

Napoli have been playing some eye-catching football under Maurizio Sarri. They play a high-intensity brand of football by threading short passes together and keep the ability to retain the ball quickly. That style of play has been mastered due to the presence of a midfield regista, Jorginho. He is the engineer of Napoli’s attacks and the man often responsible for breaking up the opposition’s play.

The Italian’s presence at the base of the midfield makes Sarri’s team so fluid in the attack. So there won’t be any shadow of doubts on what he would bring to Arsenal, as Wenger plays an attacking brand of football too.

After Francis Coquelin’s departure to Valencia last month, Arsenal are in desperate need of a defensive midfielder. Jorginho would be a fantastic addition and if Wenger has to pay over the top for the midfielder, he should do it without thinking twice.
