Southampton are the proud owners of one of the best youth academies in England. The club is also known for picking out some of the best prospects across Europe because of their top-class youth recruitment policy.
As a result, Southampton have developed some of the best talents in the English Premier League in recent years.
However, unfortunately for the Saints, it has now become a trend for the promising players to leave the club.
The biggest impact of this trend was seen this season when Southampton scraped through to survive a relegation scare. It’s clear that the club needs reinforcements to be a top-half team again.
Here is a list of 3 players who can help Southampton to a top-half finish next season:
Justin Kluivert
Southampton were utterly disappointing in the attacking this season. The wingers at the club, Nathan Redmond and Boufal, remained uninspiring for most of the campaign as they failed to threaten the opposition.
To fix the problem, Justin Kluivert could make a great addition to this Southampton side which is clearly lacking innovation up front.
Kluivert has had a breakthrough season with Ajax where he racked up an impressive 11 goals and 5 assists.
Southampton must offer the wonder kid a platform to perform and prove himself.
Paco Alcacer
Much like the wingers, the strikers at Southampton have also been ineffective and blunt up front. Shane Long and Charlie Austin have both struggled to give their side the goals to win them games all season. Barcelona’s out-of-favour Paco Alcacer could prove to be the answer for Southampton’s goal-scoring woes.
After falling down the pecking order at the Spanish club, Alcacer will certainly be available in the transfer market. The Spanish striker combines end product with movement up front – something Southampton are in dire need of.
David Luiz
If Southampton show a bit of ambition, they can sign a big imposing defender in David Luiz. The £120,000-a-week Brazilian ball-playing defender is a forgotten man at the Stamford Bridge with players like Rudiger and Christensen being preferred over him.
Ever since Van Dijk left Southampton for Liverpool, the Saints are missing a big presence at the back. Luiz, at an age of 31, has the perfect blend of experience and strength that Southampton need in their defence.
