3 Things We Learned Liverpool Vs Arsenal – Reds Are The King Makers

Share

Liverpool thumped Arsenal 5-1 in an one sided encounter at Anfield, and inflicted a damaging blow to the Gunners’ morale going into a tough run of fixtures for them. Here are three things we learned from the game.

1. Liverpool are kingmakers

Before going into the game, Liverpool were being portrayed as the side that could very well decide the fate of the Premier League this season, and that proved to be absolutely true. If the score line and the performance to go with it is anything to go by, the other title contenders should be very very worried at the prospect of visiting Anfield.

Both Chelsea and Manchester City will have to travel to Anfield in April, and they will be big games for both sides, especially considering they will be played so late in the season, and a loss at Anfield might upset their chances of winning the league. For Liverpool, the title may seem far off, but if, unlikely as it seems, they do manage to win all of their remaining games, they would end up on 89 points for the season, a haul that should seal the deal for them.

2. SAS is now SSS

Raheem Sterling

Most of the season, Liverpool have been reliant on their two big guns, Suarez and Sturridge to get them the goals, and they did not disappoint today. Sturridge scored one while Suarez set up another in what was a sparkling display by the Reds in the first 20 minutes. However, the SAS partnership is quickly developing into SSS.

Raheem Sterling has been impressive with his recent performances, and he delivered his finest of the season in a big game against Arsenal. Not only did he score two, but he showed the ability and awareness to take on Arsenal defenders and he gave them a torrid time throughout the 90 minutes. He now has scored 5 league goals this season, and his understanding with Suarez and Sturridge will be a cause for concern for other teams in the Premier League.

3.Arsenal still lack the big game mentality

Yet again, Arsenal failed to turn up in a big game. This was supposed to the beginning of a tough series of games, and the performance from some of the players was abysmal in the first half. Even through the performance picked up in the second half, the game was long gone by then, and Liverpool had taken their foot off the gas.

Mesut Ozil yet again failed miserably in a big game, something that he is quite prone to doing. His passing was shoddy, and he was caught on the ball far too often, most notably for Liverpool’s third goal. The body language of some of the other Arsenal players too was far from the best, and once the first goal went in the net in the opening minute of the game, the shoulders drooped, and it looked as though it would be a long 90 minutes; and indeed it was.
