3 tactical ways Leicester City can extract the best out of this impressive 22-year-old ace in the new season

Leicester City opinion: What Leicester can expect from Youri Tielemans

Leicester have officially signed Youri Tielemans from Monaco and it could end up being one of the best signings of this summer. The Belgian international joined on loan from Monaco in January and had an instant impact on the team. His arrival coincided with the arrival of Brendan Rodgers from Celtic.

The former Liverpool manager knows all about the Premier League, having come very close to winning it in the past and has brought in his exciting, possession heavy tactics to Leicester and it was on full display towards the end of the season. They were capable of going head-to-head with some of the League’s very best.

The timing for Tielemans couldn’t have been any better and would have played a factor when considering the move. He has already scored 3 goals and had 5 assists during his team at the club.

However, it’s not all hunky dory with Tielemans. The 22-year-old midfielder has been a talent since his days at Anderlecht and still has a lot of development left in him.

He’s still not a regular for the Belgium national side and actually had a very poor 6-month spell at Monaco, who were battling relegation.

The form that he showed for Leicester actually came as a surprise based on his showings for Monaco not long before.

There is always the worry that this was an instant impact and won’t be sustained for a long time but no one can fault Leicester for this fantastic purchase.

Now, let’s look at the various ways Rodgers can use Tielemans at the King Power stadium:

An advanced number 8 in a 4-3-3

Tielemans has many attributes, which include progressing the ball from defence to attack, a great range of passing and can even score goals from the box and outside it. No other system would fit him better than as an advanced 2.

Tielemans also has attributes which include agility and tenacity to play in a deeper role as which showcases his ball-winning techniques.  From here, he could dictate play and add another dimension to his game. These are attributes he’ll need to improve on and make him a more complete player

An advanced number 10

He has all the attacking attributes and stats to suggest that he can play an even more advanced role. This wouldn’t be ideal but could be asked of him in certain tactical games.
