Three Signings Who Would Massively Improve Swansea City Next Season

Swansea City have been a laudable Premier League outfit since their promotion to top tier of English football back in 2011. Their season, however, hit a new low last year when the Swans almost got relegated following a series of disastrous performances. But somehow, they managed to stay up in the end under the guidance of Paul Clement who was appointed following the departure of Bob Bradley, who himself was appointed midway through the campaign, replacing Francesco Guidolin.

Clement, however, has an uphill task ahead of him prior to the upcoming campaign as they need a few proficient new resources who can help them regain the lost pride.

Premier League clubs nowadays are rich enough to lure top talents in Europe, and Swansea City should dive into the transfer market for proper inclusions. We have scouted three such names who are affordable, realistic, and can massively improve them next season.

Jason Denayer

The Manchester City centre-back is expected to depart as he holds little chances to break into the first team of star-studded Citizens. The 21-year old Belgian international had a couple of impressive loan spells with Celtic and Galatasaray prior to this campaign but struggled with Sunderland this term as he suffered consecutive injury concerns and was forced to play out of position (in a defensive midfield role) by his manager David Moyes.

The Black Cats were eventually relegated to the Championship but Denayer, with his potential as well as qualities, would be a great investment for several mid-table Premier League outfits. The likes of Jordi Amat, Alfie Mawson and Federico Fernández failed to impress for the Swans as their defence conceded the second highest amount of goals in the league after Hull City. The addition of Denayer will strengthen their vulnerable back-line as well as help them construct the game from the back due to his great passing skills and vision.

John Swift

Swansea City lacked a hard-working midfielder who can operate from box to box, and play in a number of positions in the middle. Gylfi Sigurðsson, the Icelandic international, is in high demand from a lot of Premier League clubs and might end up leaving the Swans prior to next campaign. However, Reading’s John Swift would be an apt inclusion for the Welsh outfit.

He had a scintillating spell with Reading, who narrowly missed out on promotion following their play-off final heartbreak against Huddersfield Town in a tie-breaker. The 21-year old English youth international joined the Royals last year from Chelsea and flourished under Japp Stam, netting 8 times in 35 league appearances. Swift is creative, hard-working, technically gifted and would be a worthy successor of Sigurdsson if he departs.

Luis Muriel

Swansea struggled big time in front of goal and none of their strikers managed to live up to the expectations, barring Fernando Llorente, who netted 15 times and saved them from a relegation scare. Borja Baston was brought in from Atletico Madrid but the Spaniard netted only once for his new employers and was benched for the majority of the campaign due to his dismal displays.

Bafetimbi Gomis was loaned back to his country due to his poor scoring run but enjoyed a highly successful campaign with Marseille where he netted 21 times in 34 games. Although he might be handed another opportunity to revive his Premier League career, Gomis might opt to stay in his country and Clement, the Swans boss, is already considering options to add to his firepower.

Luis Muriel, the 26-year old Colombian international would be a great option as he is highly rated in the Serie A. He is being scouted by a number of clubs and has been a consistent performer for Sampdoria. Muriel would be a good addition to the Swansea squad as he would solve their goal scoring issues.
