3 Replacements Newcastle Could Look To Sign If Dwight Gayle Leaves For Fulham In January

Dwight Gayle

Three Replacements For Dwight Gayle Who Newcastle United Can Target

Despite their promotion back to the English Premier League, Newcastle United are not exactly looking confident about their campaign this season. With talks of Rafael Benitez being unhappy with the board due to their unwillingness to spend money on new players, coupled with Dwight Gayle’s possible move to Fulham in January.

Replacing a player like Gayle who was instrumental in their promotion to the Premier League will be a tough task even for Newcastle United. Gayle scored 23 goals in 34 games for the Magpies last season and is valued at £18million.

Benitez does not seem particularly interested in keeping Gayle as well, having kept him out of the match squad for the game against West Ham United last month, which they won 3-0. Let’s take a look at three strikers who Newcastle United should target in the January transfer window.

Danny Ings

The 25-year-old England international striker joined Liverpool in 2015 after enjoying a successful four-year spell at Burnley. He had a brilliant start to his Reds career with 3 goals in just 9 appearances, most of them coming off the bench. But it all went spiralling down after he suffered ACL injury during training.

He fought back hard to recover in the following season, only suffer another ACL injury, this time on his other knee. Despite all that suffering, Danny Ings has somehow managed to get back in shape, and is now close to complete fitness, ready to play a full season. With an excess of supply in Klopp’s squad, Ings can be a perfect signing for Newcastle in January. Even a loan deal could be massive for the Magpies.

Shane Long

The Republic of Ireland striker is simply warming the bench at Southampton with Gabbiadini being the Saints’ preferred first choice striker. The 30-year-old Irish striker has had a difficult couple of seasons at St.Mary’s, with constant injuries and lack of game time. But Long is an exceptional forward and can be destructive on his day, thanks to his speed and strength.

In fact, Shane Long is one of the fastest footballers in the Premier League and can outpace any defence and leave them for dead on a counter. Newcastle could certainly use an experienced and quick striker like Shane Long.

Olivier Giroud

The Frenchman is currently battling it out with Alexandre Lacazette at Arsenal to become the Wenger’s first choice striker but it does not look like he will be starting too many games for the Gunners this season, especially given the massive amount of money that was spent on bringing Lacazette from Lyon earlier in the summer.

Giroud is vastly experienced and is one of the finest headers of the ball in world football. A constant threat inside the box, Giroud will pounce on any chance given to him by the opposition. Benitez will love to have a player like Giroud in his team, who can change the game in a flash.
