Chelsea signed Kurt Zouma from St. Etienne a couple of seasons back. Rumours are strife that the defender might leave Stamford Bridge in search of regular football but only on loan since Jose Mourinho does seem to rate him.
Moving away from the Bridge may not be the best move for both the player and the club, there are very few instances of a player moving away from a club and then coming back to stake a claim for the starting spot in the team. Zouma, if he does see a future in London should do all he can to remain at Chelsea after the January transfer window and here are 3 reasons why.
Lack of central defenders at Chelsea
Chelsea do not have a lot of defenders for cover, they do not have a lot of central defenders actually. The only recognized central defenders in the team are Terry, Cahill, Ake and Zouma with Ivanovic who can come in and play a game or two but is often used as a right back.
If Terry or Cahill do get injured in a season where Chelsea are still in all the competitions, it would be Zouma who would get the chance to play, Jose should ensure that Zouma does stay and not move away. One injury in the heart of the defence would mean Zouma playing and if he does leave then it would be the inexperienced Ake playing and that is not something you would want as a Chelsea fan.
Acclimatize again
It is pretty difficult for a player to come into a foreign country and learn the ways of the country, people say that this is part and parcel of the modern game now but Zouma is a young gem in the making and having just joined the team at the start of the season and moving away in January will make his transition into first team football for the new club harder as well.
Besiktas are one of the clubs in the fray to sign him and moving to Turkey from England might be something that Zouma would not want to do.
Learning and growing under Mourinho
If Jose Mourinho does not rate a player, he will be told and he will leave the club. The boss pulls no strings and Zouma is one of the players that not only Jose rates but Zouma is expected to become one of the best defenders in the world. He is only 20 years old and should wait for his chance at Chelsea.
Being behind Terry and Cahill in the pecking order is not the worst thing in the world and Zouma does get to play in the League Cup and has made 3 appearances a piece in the League Cup and the UEFA Champions League, staying at Chelsea is the best thing for Zouma to do at this point of his career and he should not think of moving away.
