3 Reasons Why Liverpool Should Not Sign This Super French Dribbler

Share

Liverpool are trying to replace Luis Suarez with a number of players who would cumulatively make the squad stronger. They have already signed Adam Lallana and Markovic for the midfield position, which looked out of depth at times last season. And their summer spending is far from over with Rodgers having promised at least five new names between now and the end of the transfer window, including a marquee signing. The latest on their radar is Real Sociedad player Antoine Griezmann, who has also been shortlisted by Spurs, and according to the current rumours, he will soon be a player in the Premier League. There is a supposed war going on between Spurs and Liverpool and Chelsea are also monitoring the French international. It will be a matter of time before we see him donning the jersey of any particular club, but here we give three reasons why we feel Liverpool should not invest in Antoine Griezmann.

Antoine Griezmann

1. Adam Lallana factor

Last season the left wing was one of the most vulnerable spots for Brendan Rodgers’ side. There was no particular player who was natural in that position and Rodgers had to play the likes of Coutinho, Sterling to cover that area. Moreover, Liverpool did not have a decent left back and thus there was no one to make that overlapping run, making it evident to the opposition that the team would operate from the centre of the pitch or the right. But Liverpool have been quick to address that issue and brought in Adam Lallana from Southampton. He has played as a left winger for all his life and been a natural there. Antoine Griezmann primarily operates in the same position and if he is brought in now, Adam Lallana and him have to be rotated, a fact that none of the players would like.

2. Non Premier League player

Liverpool are very close to do a Spurs, getting players in the team for the sake of getting them and never being able to cope up with the fact that the best man has left the club. The only way Liverpool can restrict this is by sticking to Premier League players and avoiding players who have no Premier League experience. Spurs did that mistake and the result is out there for all of us to see. Antoine Griezmann is indeed a fine player, but getting another player from La Liga could cost them the time needed for the player to get adjusted to the nuances of the league.

3. The price

Antoine Griezmann’s price should be in the region of £24 million, with his club unwilling to settle for anything less than the release clause. This price may jeopardize the transfer intentions of Antoine Griezmann and the Liverpool management may move on to other targets. They still have key areas in the squad to address and it may not be unwise to let his go. If the value for money is taken into account, he does not symbolize a very high ratio, reason for the management to focus on other position now.
