Even though Liverpool did not have the best of preseasons with the losses at the hands of Chelsea and AS Roma, Jurgen Klopp was pleased with the hard work and training done in the United States. The Premier League club also got to see a lot of their new signings play out their first games for the club and some of them did shine, such as Sadio Mane and Marko Grujic.
The German manager has always stated that the team could do well and with a proper pre-season behind them and as opposed to those of his predecessors, Liverpool fans should have a good feeling for this season but how many times have we heard something similar before?
The Reds were close to nabbing the title a couple of years ago and they could be on a similar path this time around. The Premier League is one of the toughest leagues in the world but here are three reasons why the Reds could actually come out on top in May 2017.
Jurgen Klopp seems to be plugging those holes which Liverpool have not been able to cover for a number of years. He has brought in a centre-back, a couple of midfielders, a goalkeeper and a winger. The only position that the German might need to look into is a left-back, something which the German might have thought about already.
The moves in the transfer market would ensure that Liverpool actually have proper players for the positions stated and not forcing others to take up these spots. The players also have had a preseason to gel and learn about the methods of the manager, which should relate to better performances for the club in the Premier League.
This could be the biggest reason as to why they could actually win the league. While the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and even Arsenal deal with European football of some form, the Reds have nothing to worry about and it does remind many of the 2013-14 season when the Merseyside club almost won the league.
Jurgen Klopp’s side plays an extremely high pressing and energetic form of football and the extra rest between Premier League games could ensure that the team can play this brand of football for the entirety of the season and win more games.
The Liverpool side might have brought in a lot of experience in the form of Ragnar Klavan, Alex Manninger and even Sadio Mane but there is always this spark that the club need, something that could be provided by the young guns at the club.
Grujic, Sheyi Ojo and Kevin Stewart were extremely impressive in preseason and a few more youngsters could very well push Liverpool to the brink of a Premier League title. The youngsters know that Jurgen Klopp would be looking to give opportunities to those who deserve it. We did see something similar in the FA Cup last season for the Reds, and this could see many players give it their all.
This Premier League season could yet be another open tournament like last season and that should be a reason enough to keep Liverpool as one of the favourites for the title.
