3 Reasons Why Leaving Liverpool Is A Sensible Option For This Fan Favourite Defender

Share

Football is indeed a funny game. A player who is considered to be inseparable to a team suddenly finds himself out of favour and someone else takes his place. Otherwise who would have foreseen that David Luiz, a fan favourite in the Stamford Bridge ranks, would have left Chelsea and moved to PSG? Something similar has happened to Daniel Agger, another player who is adored in and around Liverpool.

The Danish centre back who was an integral part of the club a season back suddenly finds himself out of favour. The person who was given the responsibility of vice captaining the side, has expressed his disappointment at being made to sit out and may soon be out of the club in search of greener pastures with a number of clubs calling. Here we take a look as to why it is the right time for Daniel Agger to move on.

1. Too good to be a backup

There is absolutely no doubt on anybody’s mind that Daniel Agger is a fine defender and always gives his hundred percent for the team. A season back he was linked to Barcelona as the Catalans were looking for a centre back. Suddenly being demoted to the reserve bench is a big blow to any played and it is unfair on Agger who has always tried to uplift the team with his onfield performances and his leadership. There would be many clubs in the world who would be delighted to have a player as Agger in their backline and Liverpool must not be stubborn in the negotiations for Agger.

2. The recruitment of Lovern

Brendan Rodgers’ defence was in shambles last season and the young manager could not have his hands on the trophy because of the defence. This is the primary reason that Rodgers is trying to get players like Dejan Lovern from Southampton to strengthen his defence. Apart from that players like Sakho and Skrtel are already regulars in the squad and there are youngsters such as Tiago Ilori who are ready to jump into the squad. It will be extremely difficult for Agger to feature into the first team on a regular basis, which in turn can ruin the environment of the team and this should be the primary reason to let him go.

3. The price

Barcelona were interested in Agger a season ago and would surely have provided good money for the Dane. Even this season he can fetch a decent transfer amount from any team and Liverpool should not wait for his transfer any more. The club needs a hefty transfer fee this season as they are looking to improve the whole squad in general, in a season they are playing the Champions League after a long time and their star performer has left the team. Liverpool have already made a mistake with Pepe Reina whose value would substantially decrease this season and if Agger’s transfer is delayed by one more season then he would also suffer the same fate as Reina.
