What Could Andre Schurrle Bring With Him to Chelsea?

It is believed that Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Andre Schurrle has already signed a pre contract with Chelsea for a transfer in the summer. Schurrle who was upset with his club for blocking his move last summer, has taken the initiative himself this time around and his stubbornness may just persuade the club to accept the transfer. It will be a very important signing for Chelsea if the deal finally materialises and Chelsea bound manager Jose Mourinho will have a lot of advantage having a player such as Schurrle in his team. Some of the qualities that he will bring with him to Chelsea are as follows.

1)    Finishing capability– Schurrle is a precise finisher and his long range shots pose threat for keepers of any team. He mainly plays in the wings but his ability to move towards the box and his accurate shooting ability makes him qualified to play as a striker as well. He has scored 18 goals in 63 appearances for his club and seven times in 22 games for Germany. The Chelsea team, which has a tendency to depend more on the midfielders than the strikers, will benefit immensely from these qualities of the player.

2)    Competitions for others– Chelsea already have three talented midfielders in their squad in the form of Mata, Oscar and Hazard and as it looks, they plan to build a squad around these three. The acquisition of Andre Schurrle will provide the cover for the three amigos and would also allow them not to get too complacent. While Mata and Hazard have had a wonderful season, Oscar has looked pretty ordinary at times and this is where Schurrle would provide an alternative to the team.

3)    Balance of youth and experience– The 22 year old German international has already got over four years experience of top flight football and playing in Germany would not make the Premier League too physically challenging for him. Playing in the toughest league would also make him a more competent player and that would help him before the FIFA World Cup next year.
