3 Reasons Why Chelsea Must Hand This Loyal Star A Contract Extension ASAP

Chelsea fans celebrated with the news that Eden Hazard had signed a new deal at Stamford Bridge and while the Belgian might still have a great future ahead of him, John Terry may be on the wrong side of 30 but he still could be given a contract extension by Chelsea to keep him at the Bridge for another season or two.

Terry, the Chelsea captain has been exceptional this season and while people might have thought that his time was up, this season proves otherwise, and here are 3 reasons to show just why he deserves a contract extension at Chelsea.

Experience at the back

Terry has bag loads of experience and he is crucial in helping the younger players at the club to learn more about defending, the likes of Zouma have a lot to learn about playing as a centre back and Terry is the perfect person to give them a heads up about the art of defending.

He might be a little slow but this is where his experience counts and he gets into the right position to make the right decision. He has made 653 appearances for the Blues and he should be getting a chance to make a handful more for Chelsea, next season and hopefully more after that.

Leadership ability

He is the captain at Chelsea and apart from Petr Cech, there really isn’t anyone else who can do the job of leading a team which is so star studded. You need someone who will control the egos in the team and while Jose Mourinho does do that a bit. You still need a player who is willing to put players in their place and not be afraid of taking care of issues in the team.

On the field, he is one of the real hard men and leaders in the game. Sure there always is a doubt about how clean he is, the whole Ferdinand issue does leave a bad taste in the mouth but he will always be a legend at Chelsea.

Quality even at 34

The most surprising part of this season has been the fact that Terry has actually looked like a better player than his younger defensive partner Gary Cahill. Chelsea look a much better central defensive unit when they play with Terry and Zouma.

This team possible works because Terry is able to coach Zouma a bit during the game, sure Cahill has had a bit of a poor run of games but Terry still has looked incredibly good for the Blues and keeping him could be the best deal they have pulled off this season.
