3 Quality signings that could massively improve Bristol City next season including 24-goal Portsmouth star

Bristol City had a decent 2017/18 campaign and finished 11th in the Championship, just eight points adrift of the playoff spots. It was a real improvement over their previous two seasons, where they were battling relegation. The Robins must use this platform to really push on and challenge for the playoffs next season.

So what are their aspirations for next season – how high up the table can they finish? Well, the Championship is an incredibly tough league but it would be a real shame if they don’t challenge for a top-six finish next term.

There will be several strong teams in the Championship next season, including the three clubs, who suffered relegation from the Premier League. So what should Bristol City do in the transfer window to really help them push for promotion next season.

Here are three players who could improve the Robins and help them mount a serious promotion push next season.

Aiden McGeady

The Sunderland winger did not have the best of seasons for Sunderland in their doomed campaign last term. But he still managed to be their top scorer with 7 goals, and also managed 5 assists for the Black Cats as well.

He would be wasted in League One and could be looking for a way out of the Stadium of Light. McGeady would be an improvement on the right-wing for Bristol City.

Sam Johnstone

The Manchester United goalkeeper spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, and had an excellent campaign for the Villans.

It seems his future at Manchester United might be coming to an end as he seeks regular first-team action. Bristol City should look at the prospect of signing Johnstone as he is a definite upgrade over their current custodian Frank Fielding.

Brett Pitman

The Portsmouth striker took League One by storm last season and scored an incredible 24 goals. Bristol City need a striker, who could regularly find the back of the net for them.

And Pitman might just be the gamble that the Championship side need to take. At 30 years of age, he’d also bring experience to the squad which could be essential for the Robins.
