Southampton opinion: 3 players who can help the Saints finish in the top ten

They made it but only by the skin of their teeth. Southampton at one stage of this Premier League season were the favourites to get relegated. But by bringing in Ralph Hasenhuttl, the club changed the course of their season and ensured the club’s future.

However, to do it again with the squad that he has right now won’t be possible and Hasenhuttl has already revealed as much in an interview with the BBC. It shows just what the Saints need in the next summer window.

Aleksandar Mitrovic

One of Southampton’s main issues has been scoring goals. While Nathan Redmond has done well under the new manager, few others have managed to do the same. Sure Shane Long ended the season on a high but the Irishman struggled for most of the season.

Aleksandar Mitrovic, on the other hand, managed to net 11 goals for a relegated Fulham. His bullish physicality and relentless never say die attitude helped him adjust nicely to the Premier League. The Fulham man has been linked with a move and it’s one that should happen.

That is something that the Saints have thoroughly lacked this season, with Charlie Austin failing to bring that to the table.

Tom Rogic

At Celtic, despite having an injury-hit season, Rogic has still managed to contribute to 11 goals in 33 appearances this season. That has seen the Sun report that Southampton are ready to battle it out for the 26-year-old and it’s a move that the Saints need to win.

An all action midfielder, there is little that the Australian cannot do. That does make him a good replacement for the ageing Steven Davis and also for the struggling Mario Lemina.

It does make him very similar to Pierre-Emile Hojbejerg but Rogic offers more offensively.

James Tavernier

Currently, at Rangers, the 27-year-old has had an incredible season in the Scottish Premiership and there is still more to come. So far, Tavernier has managed to net 11 goals and create a further 14 more in just the league, showcasing exactly what he can do game after game.

That puts him amongst the club’s top scorers. But as a right-back, the English international is very reliable defensively and clearly does his fair share of work offensively. Southampton have young Yan Valery and while the 20-year-old has done well, they need another option.

James Tavernier and his versatility will play a huge part in the years to come for Southampton, which is why the Sun has reported an interest.

Siddhant Lazar

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
