“3 points but that was utter torture!!”: Some Rangers fans react as Gers go top of the table with a narrow 1-0 win + Match report

Rangers 1-0 Hamilton: Gers grab a narrow win to go top of the table

Rangers returned to the top of the Scottish Premiership after a slim 1-0 win over Hamilton Medical at the Ibrox Stadium. With Celtic losing earlier in the day, the three points sees the Gers go top of the table on goal difference. The win also ended a run of three games without a victory for the Scottish outfit.

Daniel Candeias fired Steven Gerrard’s side into an early lead just moments after Kyle Lafferty hit the bar. It was a dominant performance from the Rangers who kept the majority of the possession. But despite their dominance, they were unable to build on the one goal they scored.

The Gers were also fortunate that Hamilton produced very little in the attack. The likes of Gareth McAuley and Connor Goldson enjoyed quite an easy outing against their opponents. They dominated the game the from start till the end and allowed just 2 shots across the 90 minutes.

Rangers started the game with a bang and hit the post inside 90 seconds when Lafferty’s shot was miscued in front of the goal. But barely any time passed before they scored. Borna Barisic’s low cross was pinpoint for Lafferty and when he had the shot, the ball rebounded off Matthew Kilgallon to Candeias in space, giving him the simple task of slotting beyond Woods for the opener.

Steven Gerrard’s side won a total of 13 corners on the day before half-time but only came close to doubling their lead twice. The second half was more of the same, where the Rangers enjoyed more than 60% of the possession but attempted just 8 shots as Hamilton again frustrated them in the final third.

It was an important win for the Rangers at the end and one they just had to get. Steven Gerrard’s side are now at the summit and the former Liverpool captain will definitely aim to stay there till the end.
