Three Players With Champions League Experience Who Tottenham Should Target

Tottenham Hotspur put in a terrific performance against Hull City on the final day of the season as they managed to put 5 past the Tigers to seal off a superb season. They could not beat Chelsea for the title but managed to finish above the rest and will look to make a mark in Europe next season.

Mauricio Pochettino has an exciting squad at his disposal but with the challenges of all four competitions next season, he will be looking to add a few star names to his squad this summer, especially since last summer’s signings have failed. Daniel Levy will be ready to splash the cash but Pochettino should choose his targets carefully. With the window not too far away, here are three players with Champions League experience who Pochettino can target this summer:

James Rodriguez (Real Madrid)

The Colombian international has been frustrated with the lack of playing time at the Bernabeu and is set to quit the club this summer. Chelsea and Manchester United are also interested in his signature but Spurs can offer him UCL football along with regular playing time and are very much in with a chance to land him this summer. He is one of the best creative midfielders in Europe and will surely help Tottenham take the next step.

James Rodriguez

Dries Mertens (Napoli)

A not so realistic option for Pochettino is the experienced Dries Mertens. The Belgian international is one of the most productive players in front of goal in Europe this season and at 30, is in prime form. He does not fit the transfer model for Pochettino but is a ready-made star who can lift them to new heights. There will be a number of clubs who will be ready to offer him a lucrative deal and Tottenham will have to act fast if they want his services this summer.

Dries Mertens

Mateo Kovacic (Real Madrid)

Another Real Madrid star that Tottenham have recently been linked with is Croatian star, Mateo Kovacic. Far from being the first choice midfielder for Zinedine Zidane, Kovacic may fall down the pecking order if the manager spends on another midfielder and Spurs can eyeing him as a replacement for Eric Dier, if he quits the club this summer. At just 23, he is a perfect fit for the Tottenham squad and if Pochettino can get the best out of him, surely Spurs will be a different team next season.
