Manchester City have been in unstoppable form throughout the season so far and they are the top favourites to win the coveted Premier League title as well. They have graced the first spot in the league table for the longest time now and even though they have played against all the best teams already, the Sky Blues have managed to come out unscathed. In fact, they were even poised to complete the season unbeaten but that did not work out.
Although they did drop a few points, it has not affected their position since they are now 16 points ahead of second-placed Manchester United. Given the situation, they seem set to win the trophy this term but once the new season begins, the club will need reinforcements to help maintain the momentum. At present, they have a plethora of top-class players but the upcoming summer window will be crucial for them. With that in mind, here are 3 players City must consider signing.
Mauro Icardi – Inter Milan
Icardi has delivered some top-class performances for the Italian side this season and has scored 19 goals in 24 appearances. His finishing skills have been quite impressive and he seems to have quite a penchant for finding the back of the net. He will be expensive but the cash-rich club are known to be big spenders. With Gabriel Jesus going in and out of fitness, Sergio Aguero is their only other option, thus making a move for the £67.5m-rated Icardi seem like a step in the right direction for next season.
Kostas Manolas – AS Roma
City have the likes of Vincent Kompany, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nicolas Otamendi as their centre-backs but it might not hurt to have a quality option like Manolas in the ranks. Also, a player like Manolas could work wonders whenever Guardiola decides to field a three-man backline. Not only would he boost squad depth, Manolas can also provide additional solidity at the back, making their defence truly impregnable. Hence, the club must consider a move for the Roma central defender.
Jean-Michael Seri – OGC Nice
Seri has been one of the most sought-after players and for all right reasons. He is an extremely valuable player given his tenacity for linking the attack to defence while equally contributing to both fronts. Although Fernandinho has essayed this role effortlessly for City this season, he is not getting any younger and the club will need another player in that area. Hence, considering everything that Seri can bring to the team, City must definitely pursue a move for him.
