Burnley’s impressive run in the English top flight under manager Sean Dyche continues as they successfully maintain their remarkable start to the season. The Clarets are sitting pretty in the seventh position in the Premier League table, even though qualifying for the Europa League is far-fetched at the moment.
Since their promotion to the top flight in the 2016/17 season, where they somehow survived relegation, Burnley went through a serious overhaul in the summer in an attempt to strengthen their overall quality. And considering how fruitful it has been the Clarets should once again attempt to lure in some quality players in the summer as Sean Dyche looks to push for the Europa League places next season.
In this article, we will talk about three players, who can so much quality to Burnley if they arrive in the summer.
Injuries have been one of the most serious issues for manager Sean Dyche this season. With the likes of Steven Defour, Dean Marney, Robbie Brady currently sidelined through injury, the 46-year-old manager will definitely look to improve his midfield options this summer and that’s where Pascal Gross comes into the fray.
The Brighton midfielder has been excellent since moving from Ingolstadt last summer, scoring five goals and providing six assists in the league so far this season.
Known for his versatility in midfield, Gross has proved to be instrumental in Brighton’s success this season, however small it may be. The German midfielder is a technically gifted playmaker who can not only create a bulk of chances but also has the ability to score goals by himself. His deliveries from set-pieces, however, is one of his most prized assets.
The addition of this former Ingolstadt man will definitely strengthen Sean Dyche’s options in midfield and could potentially help them do even better in the league next term.
While Pascal Gross will strengthen Burnley on the creative front, manager Sean Dyche will also love to bring more quality in the middle of the park and Jack Wilshere could be a perfect candidate for the Clarets.
The Arsenal midfielder has had a topsy-turvy season since returning to the Emirates at the start of this season. The 26-year-old has made 15 appearances for the Gunners so far, totalling 911 minutes of Premier League football, which is not bad considering the fact that he has struggled with injuries for the most part of his career.
Jack Wilshere is apparently keen on extending his contract at Arsenal but the Gunners might be open to sending him out on a loan deal once again, should they manage to sign a world class midfielder this summer, with Arsene Wenger already insisting that the club continue breaking the bank. Wilshere’s addition to the squad will definitely revamp Burnley’s midfielder options.
His qualities on the build-up play and the ability to make a telling difference could hand Burnley an advantage in the midfield department.
Burnley have a relatively revamped attacking department with the likes of Nahki Wells, Chris Wood, Sam Vokes and Ashley Barnes all being part of Sean Dyche’s attacking setup. That being said, Ashley Barnes has been the only real ever-present figure in the Burnley attack this season with the likes of Chris Wood struggling with injuries and Sam Vokes failing to get a regular place in the starting lineup.
Jonathan Walters hasn’t featured since December, due to his recurring knee injury while Nahki Wells hasn’t been impressive enough to convince Sean Dyche. Therefore, Shane Long could be an ideal buy for the Clarets this summer.
Even though the Irish forward has struggled to find the back of the net this season, his pace and agility will add another dimension to Burnley’s attacking setup and help them improve in the seasons to come.
