Here Are 3 Players Tottenham Must Sign Before The Deadline Day

Share

Tottenham started their 2016-2017 Premier League season with a draw against Everton last weekend. Ross Barkley got the Merseyside club ahead early on in the game, however, Eric Lamela got Spurs level soon after the break with an excellent header. Pochettino’s side almost went all the way last season only to be dragged down after a disastrous run of four winless games at the end. That not only ended their title ambitions but also saw them finish below their North London rivals Arsenal. This season is going to get much tougher for Tottenham, due to the presence of top managers in the league plus the extra workload that will come with their participation in the Champions League.

Victor Wanyama made his Premier League debut for Spurs against Everton, however, another summer signing Vincent Janssen had to wait till the second half to make an appearance. Although these two new arrivals will surely increase the quality in the squad, there is no doubt that Pochettino still has a few gaps in the team, which he will like to fill before the transfer window slams shut. Here are the three player that Pochettino can target over the next 10 days.

Adrian Silva

Silva was part of the Portuguese national team that won the recently concluded European Championship. He was a very influential figure in the Sporting Lisbon team that narrowly missed out on the title last season. Although Tottenham have Wanyama, Dier, and Dembele available to play that central role, there is no denying the fact that the fixture pile-up is going to inevitably take it’s toll on some players, therefore Pochettino must have cover available in the squad. Last season, it was the absence of Dele Alli and Dembele during the final stages that actually Tottenham dear. Silva is an experienced player, who will offer a lot of quality to the Spurs squad.

Georges-Kevin N’Koudou

Tottenham have been pursuing N’Koudou all through the summer, and if reports are to be believed there was some breakthrough in the talks this week. Marseille winger scored 10 goals in 36 appearances last season following his move from Nantes last year. The 21-year-old fit perfectly into Tottenham recruitment policy. His pace will be a huge asset to the team, which struggled sometimes last season to get in behind their opposition. The deal could see Clinton Njie heading in the opposite direction after a disappointing last season, where he failed to make any impact.

Jonathan Tah

Tottenham had the best defensive record in the league last time around, largely thanks to the partnership of  Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld. However with the number of matches this season, Pochettino can’t rely on his Belgian centre backs to stay fit all season, therefore a signing in the central defense department will be hugely welcome. Tah mixes physique and power with an intelligent reading of the game and the ability to work the ball into midfield. He is still only 20 years of age, therefore he would act as a perfect understudy to Vertonghen.
