3 Players That Pochettino Should Target In January Who Could Walk Into The Starting XI At White Hart Lane

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur have just not been able to find consistency in the Premier League this season after a decent start to the campaign. Their 5-0 victory over Swansea City at the weekend was just their 2nd in the last 7 games and have left them 7 points off the top of the Premier League. A number of star players at the club have failed to live up to their expectations this season with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen all failing to impress. This has left Pochettino with some work to do before the second half of the season and here are 3 world class signings that can step into the first team this season and help them to the top of the table:

Isco (Real Madrid):

Though a long shot, the Real Madrid attacker is currently linked with a move away from Spain and Arsenal and Chelsea are two clubs keen on his services. But Spurs are also interested in his signature with reports suggesting that they were close to agreeing on a deal with the European Champions in the summer. Though the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also monitoring his situation, Isco will get more game time at the White Hart Lane compared to everywhere else and this might lure him to London this January. The Spaniard has been getting no playing time in Spain and is looking for a potential club and Spurs, who have lacked creativity this season can use Isco in a number 10 role, pushing Dele Alli back to add more balance to the squad.

Moses Simon (Gent):

Though not a big money name, Simon is a player who can walk into the first team at the club for certain games this season. Though Sissoko, Janssen, N’Jie, Son and Eriksen are all responsible for adding pace and width to the attack, Spurs have evidently lacked either attribute in their play recently. None of the players in the attacking third have been able to impress enough to guarantee a starting XI spot and this is where Simon can be a great addition. The 21-year old Nigerian winger was linked with a move to the club but Spurs were not ready to splash £15m on him in the summer. But having constantly terrorised defenders with his pace and attacking ability along with his presence of mind in the final third, Simon fits into the profile at the club well and could be a good option for Spurs in January.

Morgan Schneiderlin (Manchester United):

Having made just 2 appearances in all competitions this season at Old Trafford, Schneiderlin is on his way out of the club in January and there are close to no reasons as to why Pochettino should not sign him. Knowing him well from his time at the St Mary’s, Pochettino is a fan of the midfielder and reportedly wants to make a move for the Frenchman in January to try and add some mettle to the midfield. Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama are the defensive midfielders of first choice for Pochettino while Dembele offers some creative options. But Schneiderlin has a nice balance between both and if Pochettino can get his man in January and give him some confidence, he may well turn into a regular starter for the club in years to come.
