3 Players Pep Guardiola Could Bring To Manchester City In January

Manchester City have made a remarkable start to the Premier League season and are the favourites to win the title as well. Their Champions League encounters have been quite strong too, but with the January window approaching, Pep Guardiola is likely to be keen on adding some players to the squad. There are some concerns regarding squad depth in certain areas. For example, John Stones’ injury has come as a blow and the club could use some fresh centre-backs.

The cash-rich club spent a lot over the summer and they seem to be reaping the rewards now. However, they have been linked to some players and knowing Guardiola, he will be determined to win the trophy. For that to happen, City will need to stand strong even if their key players pick up injuries. So the winter window will be crucial for them to bring in new faces. Here are 3 players Guardiola is likely to go after in January.

Alexis Sanchez – Arsenal

Sanchez was expected to join City over the summer but the move fell through at the last moment as the Gunners refused to let him go due to their inability to find a replacement. That has not deterred Guardiola and the manager could land his man in January to boost his attacking options on the left. Leroy Sane is risking exhaustion and having another option could be a boost.

Arsene Wenger will not be too happy about letting one of his key players leave but City could tempt him with cash.

Leon Goretzka – Schalke

Goretzka has not been linked with Man City yet. However, Guardiola could certainly benefit from having a player like Goretzka. His attack-oriented style of play will suit the Spaniard’s tactics and his versatility will also appeal to the manager. He can play in the holding role and would also prove to be quite solid in other midfield positions as well.

The former Bayern Munich manager is a stickler for honing flexible players, making Goretzka an ideal target for the midfield. Moreover, City signed Sane from Schalke, which turned out well for both parties, and Goretzka could hope for a similar outcome.

Jack Wilshere – Arsenal

Another midfield option for City to consider is Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere. The 25-year-old was one of the country’s brightest prospects a few years back but a string of injuries have stunted his growth ever since. After a loan move to Bournemouth, Wilshere is back for the Gunners but has failed to break into the first-team. Given Guardiola’s knack for bringing the best out of players like Fabian Delph, Raheem Sterling and John Stones, he could do the same for Wilshere as well.
