Three Players Celtic Can Target In The Upcoming Summer Window

Brendan Rodgers has a limit to the amount of money he can spend compared to what he would have been used to in the Premier League. Although Celtic are the top earners in the SPL, gone are the days when they could attract the biggest players from England to come and play north of the border.

So with this in mind, Brendan will be looking to make the most of his limited budget and sign players with a potential resale value that he can invest further down the line. He will also be looking for players who’d fit his quite specific form of play, the free-flowing nature of his sides being an important element.

Danny Ings

Ings was bought by Brendan Rodgers when he was in charge at Liverpool and due to injuries, he never really got the chance to show his manager what he could do. He has very rarely played under Jurgen Klopp and will likely be not offered a new contract when the current one runs out in 2020. Rodgers may be looking to pick him up two years earlier than that.

During the transfer window, Ings was offered to the Championship and to the lower half of the Premier League but he was not prepared to make that move. However, a move to Celtic would be more comfortable because it would mean a reunion with Rodgers and also a chance to start again in a different country.

Jason Shackell

A classy defender who has had a tough few seasons, Shackell could help solve the defensive problems that Celtic have suffered in recent weeks. Shackell is currently on loan at Millwall but has been a top-class defender in the past.

He can play with the ball, as he proved when he played under Steve McClaren and could, therefore, fit the style of defender that Rodgers usually looks for. This would be a big step up for a Championship player like him, but one that he would relish.

Greg Taylor

Greg Taylor of Kilmarnock is a defensive midfielder who can also play as a left-back. He is probably most famous for putting in a very heavy two-footed challenge to welcome Joey Barton to Scottish football.

Putting in a crunching tackle on a Rangers player would be enough for some Celtic fans but this boy can actually play as well. He has a lot of pace and football intelligence, and for that reason, Brendan Rodgers should keep an eye on him.
