Tottenham Hotspur scripted history when they failed to make a single signing this summer. Spurs became the first club to not sign a player in the summer transfer window since its inception. They are also the only club across all of Europe’s top five leagues that failed to make any additions.
Regardless of what happened this summer, Spurs must go back into the market in January and sign their targets.
Here, we take a look at three players Tottenham could go back and sign when the January transfer window commences next year.
The Eagles’ talisman was linked with a move to Tottenham but a deal ultimately fell through due to Palace’s high asking fee (h/t Express Sport). However, Mauricio Pochettino could go back for the former Manchester United winger in January.
A devastating attacker, Zaha was in explosive form for the Eagles last season. In fact, he was Palace’s go-to man in front of the goal and played a key role as they finished 11th. If Tottenham succeed in luring him away from Selhurst Park, Zaha would significantly strengthen Spurs.
Zaha possesses the required pace and skills to stretch defenders out of position, meaning he would provide the likes of Harry Kane with greater freedom to attack. While the Ivorian would be a brilliant signing for the club, he certainly won’t come cheap.
According to The Sun, Tottenham made a £44million bid for the versatile American but it looks like a deal failed to materialize. Nevertheless, Pulisic would be an excellent signing as he is capable of playing in a number of different systems and formations.
Although he is generally classified as a central attacking midfielder, Pulisic is also capable of slotting into the flanks. With his speed and skills, he would provide Spurs with some much-needed guile and bite in the final third.
A pass master and excellent dribbler on the ball, Pulisic possesses all the qualities required to flourish under Pochettino.
Jack Grealish looked increasingly likely to step out in a Tottenham jersey this season but Aston Villa have successfully retained their midfield ace this summer (h/t Skysports). Grealish is a talented midfielder who has shown immense potential and growth over the last two seasons.
He is Villa’s driving force in the middle of the park, with his creativity and distribution playing a crucial role in the final third. Grealish is capable of picking the locks with his pinpoint passing abilities, which should be helpful for the likes of Dele Alli and Kane.

Come January, Pochettino should certainly make the move for the midfielder. He may not be a big-name star like Zaha or Pulisic but he is extremely talented.
