Three Managers Who Are Capable Of Replacing Mauricio Pellegrino at Southampton

As per a report from BBC, Southampton have sacked Mauricio Pellegrino and are on the lookout for a new manager with just about eight games to go. The Saints are currently in the 17th spot and are just one point ahead of the dreaded relegation zone. While that does seem lucky for now, there is absolutely no denying the fact that Southampton are dangerously close to getting relegated.

In fact, if they don’t pull up their socks, they stand a good chance of moving to the Championship next season and in my opinion, perhaps sacking Pellegrino at a crucial time like this might not be a great idea. However, with time ticking by, the club will have to find a replacement as soon as possible and bring in somebody who can help preserve their Premier League status beyond the end of the season at least.

With that in mind, here are three managers who are worthy of taking over at Southampton.

Marco Silva

A dynamic and young manager, Silva did prove what he is capable of, when he was with Watford earlier this season. The Hornets were in a brilliant run of form under his guidance and they had even managed to break into the top-6 at one point. His tryst with the club may not have ended on a good note but that does not cast doubts on his capabilities. And in a situation like this, his vision could just be what Southampton might need in order to do well.

Graham Potter

The Ostersunds manager has been in the news for all the right reasons lately. Having played for Southampton before, Potter is currently in charge of the Swedish club for the last seven years and in the process, he managed to seal promotions for them all the way up to the top-flight. Despite being just 42, Potter has quite a lot of experience in the field and the fact that they even beat Arsenal in the Europa League recently is another feather to his cap.

Brendan Rodgers

This one might be a bit unlikely for now since Rodgers is in charge of Scottish giants Celtic, who are on the verge of picking up the league title by the end of the season. But his tactics and ideas could suit Southampton in the season to come and if the club are open to the idea of appointing a temporary caretaker manager for now, they can make a serious approach for Rodgers once this season comes to an end. He has Premier League experience as well and could end up working wonders at the St. Mary’s.
