3 Loan Signings Wolves Should Look To Complete In January
Wolves have been excellent in the Championship this season and currently sit on top of the division. Their new signings Leo Bonatini, Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves and Willy Boly are really looking the part.
The club’s ability to nab top talent on loan has put them in a strong position and they may look to pull off another loan or two in January to effectively seal the second tier title and achieve Premier League football. Here are three options for them in the loan market at the turn of the year.
Benik Afobe (Bournemouth)
The former Wolves man was a target for the club as far back as August and they have kept Leo Bonatini honest by constantly stating their need for another striker.
It would appear to have worked, with Brazilian Bonatini named as the latest Championship Player of the Month and leading the line brilliantly with help from Diogo Jota, Ivan Cavaleiro and Helder Costa.
Afobe is not getting the game time he needs at Bournemouth and needs a move, though being second fiddle at Wolves would not be his long-term solution. So a short-term move for Afobe as quality cover for Bonatini could work for the player and the club as well.
Sergio Oliveira (Porto)
Wolves’ relationship with Porto is good and in the case of Oliveira, they have a solid midfield player who is not getting enough game time in Portugal.
Despite the form of Romain Saiss, Wolves could do with a better partner for the excellent Ruben Neves and so it would make sense to look for a player of Oliveira’s quality. It’s easy to see him fitting into the Wolves team on a short-term basis until the end of the season before returning to Portugal after the short spell.
Galeno (Porto)
The young Brazilian forward is another player who needs experience and would present Wolves with another option apart from Benik Afobe in this position.
With just two Primeira Liga appearances to his name this season, Galeno has shown his extreme talent but acute lack of experience, something which could be solved by this temporary move.
Half a season in the English Championship would turn this starlet from a boy to a man while perhaps adding more star quality to a Wolves side looking to win the title in England’s second tier with a bit of flair.
