Three Liverpool Players Who Southampton Can Target In The Summer

There is no denying that over the last couple of years, the Premier League has seen several mid-table clubs punch above their weight and give the elite clubs a run for their money. Stories like that of Leicester City FC show that the League has become far more competitive now than ever before.

Southampton FC is another one of those clubs that has managed to finish in the top 8 of the Premier League regularly despite not spending enough on players, rather selling most of their best ones. The last couple of summer transfer windows has seen the Saints lose some of their best players to Premier League giants like Liverpool and Manchester United.

In order for Southampton to go the extra inch next season, they should be looking to buy quality players for a change rather than sell like they usually do. Liverpool FC have been the common raiders of the south coast club for a few seasons now.

Southampton, for once have a chance to bring in some of Liverpool players to the St.Mary’s as the Merseyside club are looking for world class experienced players as they prepare for Champions League next season. Let’s take a look at three Liverpool FC players who could massively improve the Saints next season.

Alberto Moreno

The 24-year-old Spanish left-back joined the Reds from Sevilla in 2014 and immediately became a part of the first team. Moreno’s strengths are his remarkable pace and ability to create chances. He is known for putting in decent crosses with his left foot and can also play as a wing-back. Despite his defensive abilities being questioned in the past, Moreno has certainly learned from his mistakes. With Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand’s departure from the club looking like a possibility, Alberto Moreno would be the best possible replacement at the moment.

Mamadou Sakho

The 27-year-old former PSG and France national team captain joined the Reds from PSG. Sakho has seen many up and downs throughout his Liverpool career and has recently found himself on the ugly side of the club’s manager, Jurgen Klopp. During his loan spell with Crystal Palace, Sakho managed to make an immediate impact, having kept 4 four clean sheets in his first 4 games for the club and also helping them avoid relegation. Despite all the controversy, Sakho has always proven to be a really good centre-back and Southampton would do well to buy the Frenchman or maybe even strike a loan deal with the Reds.

Divock Origi

Divock Origi could be the answer to Southampton’s attacking fragilities, with the Belgian international looking for more game time. With Roberto Firmino currently taking up the striking responsibilities at Liverpool and Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings returning from a long injury, Origi might not get enough game time at the club next season. Divock Origi would surely be an upgrade on Charlie Austin and Jay Rodriguez.
