Three Premier League destinations for Ben Woodburn
Ben Woodburn is one of Liverpool’s brightest young stars. He became Liverpool’s third-youngest player in history upon making his senior debut in November 2016. After his second appearance, he became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer. He is also Wales’ second-youngest-ever goalscorer, having netted on his senior debut at the age of 17 in September 2017.
Woodburn is generally classified as a striker but is also capable of playing as a winger, such is his versatility. Due to the presence of players like Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, Woodburn has found it hard to break into the first-team.
Here we take a look at three Premier League clubs the youngster could join to continue his growth without any hindrance.
Southampton FC
Liverpool are the ones who usually shop at Southampton but this time around, things could change. The Saints barely survived last season after the club occupied the final safety spot. Southampton finished 17th in the league as the South Coast club endured a dismal campaign. They looked blank in the attack. Woodburn would be a great addition to the squad.
He would provide them with depth and strength in the squad. He could play as a winger for the Saints and provide ample cover for Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond. Woodburn’s ability to beat defenders down the flanks makes him a tasty prospect and manager Mark Hughes should certainly go for the player. The clubs have previously negotiated deals for a number of players so it wouldn’t be hard to strike a deal for Woodburn.
West Ham United
West Ham are in dire need of a new attacking midfielder after talisman Manuel Lanzini suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, which will keep him out for the majority of next season. Lanzini also missed the World Cup in Russia this summer and failed to represent Argentina.
New manager Manuel Pellegrini could be the perfect man for Woodburn to be mentored by. The Chilean’s ability and knowledge of the game will bear a huge influence on the 18-year-old. And with the presence of strikers like Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic, Woodburn would thrive in a supporting role. He could provide just the support they need as West Ham bid to have a strong Premier League season.
Burnley
The Clarets have returned to Europe after a 60-year absence. Sean Dyche’s men could be competing in the Europa League next season and the manager is going to need new additions. Woodburn would be a great signing for the club, who will need a lot more depth this time around.
Burnley is the perfect club for an up and coming English youngster and Sean Dyche could be the right manager to help Woodburn realise his potential. The manager should certainly try and make a move for the youngster, who is destined for greatness once he gets older.
