Wolves should definitely sign Raul Jimenez on a permanent basis

Wolverhampton Wanderers were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur last weekend and are on the back of three straight losses in the league. But Wolves have otherwise made a strong start to life under Nuno Espirito Santo this year. The club are currently 11th in the league and have proven to be a surprise package this season.

The newcomers have scored a total of 11 goals in 11 games and one man who has provided largely to that tally is striker Raul Jimenez. The Mexican hitman is on a season-long loan from Benfica. Jimenez is one of the main driving forces in this team’s attack. He has linked up well in the final third and has also been a menace for opposition defenders. The 27-year-old has averaged 3 shots per game and has constantly threatened the goalkeepers. The Mexican has taken a total of 33 shots as well, of which 14 were on target.

He has thrived playing in Santo’s 3-4-3 formation as the wide forwards provide Jimenez with ample opportunities. Jimenez’s ability to hold onto the ball also allows the wingers to find space behind the defenders and make a run for it. The Mexican has averaged a pass success rate of 73.4% in the league while creating 2 big chances in that time.

The 27-year-old has also been dominant in the air, winning an average of 2.5 aerial duels. He has also shown a superb work ethic and has done exceptionally well to hassle opposition defences. Wolverhampton Wanderers don’t possess an out and out striker like Raul Jimenez at the moment and that is why Nuno Espirito Santo must aim to sign him permanently at the end of the season.
