3 Extremely speedy wingers who Manchester United could target including Chelsea star

Share

Manchester United have a pool of talented attacking players that includes the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata.

Seeing the current forwards at disposal under Jose Mourinho, one would wonder what has gone wrong this season that saw United finish a staggering 19 points adrift of champions Manchester City.

They have a good defence with arguably the best goalkeeper on the planet and also a dazzling attack but what has been United’s problem in breaking some of the tightest defences in the Premier League?

The answer to the problem is not exactly pace but United lack pacey traditional wingers. Other than Rashford and Mata, the likes of Lingard, Sanchez and Martial are not traditional wingers.

Mourinho has already claimed he is happy with his current options in the attack but to challenge for the title next season, the Portuguese needs to sign a speedy winger who is capable of creating things out of nothing.

That being said, here are three speedy wingers United should look to sign.

Gareth Bale (Real Madrid)

Mourinho is a big fan of Gareth Bale and tried signing him earlier. However, the Welshman stayed.

Since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham, Bale has failed to consistently deliver the goods. He is a highly talented player but much of his time at the Bernabeu has been hampered by different kinds of injuries.

Gareth Bale

Despite being fit in the latter stages of the recently concluded campaign, Bale has seen very limited game time, which might see him leave Madrid in summer. If the Welshman decides to leave, Mourinho must jump the gun and try signing him, as Bale fits the bill at United.

Bale would arrive in Manchester as a player about to reach the peak of his powers, having already shown that he has the experience and winning mentality that Mourinho craves from his players.

Felipe Anderson (Lazio)

Linked with a move to United in the past, Felipe Anderson could be a valuable signing for Mourinho.

Lightening quick, agile, industrious and two-footed, the Brazilian can play across the frontline and falls in the mould of a traditional winger. Anderson has exquisite dribbling qualities and is a fantastic crosser of the ball which exactly suits Mourinho’s profile of a wide man.

Felipe Anderson

The only weakness in the Lazio winger’s game is that he too often holds the ball and makes wrong decisions. If he can iron out those weaknesses, Anderson is a gem of a player to have in the squad.

Willian (Chelsea)

The safest bet for United will be Willian, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Mourinho worked with Willian at Chelsea and knows the qualities the Brazilian possesses. Nippy, agile, hard-working and deadly in front of goal, Willian would be a perfect fit at United. He has a sweet right-foot which is capable of delivering pin-point crosses in the box.

Willian

Chelsea have sold Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic to United in recent years and both of them have proved to be really good acquisitions. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea sell Willian to United but Mourinho must try to get him.
