Three Destinations For Mesut Ozil If He Leaves Arsenal

The summer transfer window saw a lot of speculation over Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil’s future. He has been linked with a move away from the Gunners since the player is seemingly unhappy at the club. Arsenal’s woes appear to be increasing while Ozil is unable to give his best to a club where he has to forego his natural style of football. With the January window coming up, the German is being linked with an exit yet again.

Ozil is a prolific playmaker when playing for Germany but at Arsenal, he almost becomes invisible on the field due to the lack of freedom and space. For the kind of player that he is, it does come as a surprise that he has not won any major trophies in the last couple of years. Thus, with the player getting close to turning 30, he could be seeking pastures new. If that happens though, where should he go? Here are 3 destinations for Mesut Ozil to consider.

Manchester United

Jose Mourinho has worked with Ozil at Real Madrid before and he could fit in perfectly with the new system at United. The club could do so much better by strengthening their attacking options. Moreover, a 4-2-3-1 formation could see Ozil wreak havoc in a No. 10 role. His experience in the Premier League would further allow him to make an immediate impact.

The only problem with the move is that Arsenal might hesitate to sell him to a rival Premier League team, especially after making that mistake in the past with Robin van Persie. It is important that they keep their best players if they want to be taken seriously as an elite outfit. However, the Gunners don’t have too much control over things here and there is no doubt that a move to the Red Devils can benefit the player.

AS Monaco

The French champions saw most of their attacking talent leave the club after a shock title win last season. That did not stop Leonardo Jardim from tweaking with his side’s set up to ensure they stay as lethal as possible. Thus, when it comes to adding attacking talent, Ozil can prove to be a good option.

Although many people claim that Ozil has not been at his best over his Arsenal tenure, the player has still been known for creating numerous chances for the Gunners. Even on a bad day, the German does not shy away from orchestrating attacks and making things happen. That kind of creativity fueled by the lethal finishing of Radamel Falcao could be a fatal combination.

Paris Saint-Germain

Another option for Ozil could be Monaco’s arch-rivals Paris Saint-Germain. With the likes of Edinson Cavani, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at their disposal, one might consider Ozil surplus to requirement, but when has that ever been a bad thing?

PSG have a tough couple of months ahead, and Ozil could prove to be a valuable addition. His style could also benefit the French club. For example, when in possession, Ozil slows down the whole game to his pace and liking, thus bringing a new dimension to PSG’s build-up play. Cavani, a striker renowned for his movement in the final third, would especially thrive on the through balls from the German, making it seem like a match made in heaven.
