3 Defensive Leaders Arsenal And Manchester United To Sign To Sort Out Defence Issues

The defensive issues of both Manchester United and Arsenal are known currently and with the lack of depth in defence hurting both sides there cannot be any shadow of a doubt that both Arsene Wenger and Louis Van Gaal will have to dip their toes in the January transfer window. Although the options will not be be very many in January and both the English clubs will have to pay through the noses to get that premium defensive leader, the defensive situation is such that both clubs do not have much of a choice really. Here at Soccersouls, we discuss the 3 defensive leaders that both Manchester United and Arsenal can go for to sort out their defences.

Virgil Van Dijk:

The Celtic centre back has been in the radar of both Manchester United and Arsenal of late. This Dutch defender is infact the perfect solution to both Manchester United and Arsenal’s problems. In fact although he is 23, he command both on the ball and over his teammates is there for everybody to see. For everyone who says that the Scottish Premier League is not really a fair yardstick to say how good a player is, these are his stats from the Champions League. He has made a total of 12 defensive actions in the 4 matches so far (tackles and defensive headers) and he has not made a single error in all those matches. Definitely a defender who can help both Manchester United and Arsenal immensly and also be a long term solution to both these club’s defensive problems.

Ron Vlaar:

Although the Villa captain has been sidelined by injury for the last few Premier League matches, that has not diminished his value for Manchester United one bith. Although he will be a fit at both Manchester United and Arsenal, it is the Manchester club under Louis Van Gaal’s stewardship that wants him more. Having had an exceptional World Cup under Louis Van Gaal, most expected Vlaar to make the switch to Manchester United in the summer itself. Apart from exceptional defensive strength and tackling, Vlaar is a leader on the pitch which will come in very handy for Manchester United should they be successful in getting their man.

Antonio Rudiger:

Alright, this is the one dark horse to our list. We are willing to bet that most of you have not heard of this defender from Stuttgart. At 6’4’’ he is indeed towering and even at this young age he is being touted as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga. Some section of the German media is already calling for Rudiger’s place in the German national team. There can be no doubt that he is potentially a diamond in the rough who would not mind sitting in the bench for the experienced duo of Mertesacker and Koscielny while providing top calss back up. Also if he switches to Manchester United, he can immediately start and given his talent he is more likely to be an instant impact rather than a flop.
