Three Bundesliga Talents Liverpool Should Target In The Summer

Having qualified for the Champions League next season, Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool FC will be hoping to bring in some quality players this summer in the hope of pushing for the Premier League title as well as making an impact in the Champions League.

After a brilliant start to the season last year, Liverpool failed to keep their momentum going after losing some of their key players to injuries. Due to the absence of players like Sadio Mane and Daniel Sturridge, the Merseyside club had a horrendous spell in the month of January. Add to that the club’s leaky defence, Liverpool wasted an opportunity to fight for the Premier League title.

If Jurgen Klopp is looking to avoid such a disaster once again, Liverpool must look to secure some heavy artillery in the summer transfer window, who can make an instant impact on the squad. Let’s take a look at three such players whom the German manager should target.

Jonas Hector

The Germany international and FC Koln left-back made 36 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit last season. Hector also featured heavily in Germany’s Euro 2016 campaign and was favoured by the German football team’s coach. Known for his versatility, the 26-year-old can play both as a full-back as well as a wing-back, and loves to dribble past players. His strength lies in his crossing ability and his aerial duels, and would be the best possible replacement for the out of favour Alberto Moreno. The German left-back will also add some much-needed pace on the left which James Milner clearly lacks. Hector could walk right into Klopp’s eleven with his experience having played for 5 seasons with FC Koln.

Naby Keita

The Guinea international and Red Bull Leipzig midfielder had a sensational campaign last season which saw him become a part of the Bundesliga team of the season. The 22-year-old contributed 8 goals and 8 assists in 32 appearances for Leipzig. Keita has both defensive and offensive capabilities, which is a bonus for a club like Liverpool who are quite fragile in defence. At just 22 years of age, Keita might cost Liverpool a lot of money but would be well worth it.

Timo Werner

The 21-year-old German striker was a big arrival at RB Leipzig last summer. Werner turned out to be worth every penny as he went on to finish his debut season with 21 goals and 7 assists to his name. The young striker caught a lot of attention, having scored twice against the likes of Bayern Munich and FC Schalke. Apart from an injury prone Sturridge, Liverpool lack a 20 goal per season striker in their squad and Werner could be the answer this.
