3 Big Money Signings Who Could Struggle This Season In The Premier League Featuring Chelsea And Liverpool Stars

Big money equals big signings or at least that is the case, be it for a 20-year-old who doesn’t want to turn up for work or a 30 something German powerhouse leaving his home to try out a new league, the Premier League has stories all around the 20 clubs.

While clubs like Southampton seem to have done well in the recent past with low money signings doing extremely well for the club, there are a number of stories which involve huge money signings but players failing for some reason or another. The extra TV money from the Premier League seems to have provided a boost to the transfer dealings of the clubs and we look at three big signings who might not do well for their team this season.

Christian Benteke

The amount of money Liverpool seem to stump out always surprises everyone, they signed Roberto Firmino for a huge amount and then bought Benteke for close to £32.5 million. What should be a worry for the club is his injury which made him miss the World Cup in 2014. He might have recovered from that during his great second half for Aston Villa but can he play in the pass and move system at Liverpool or will Liverpool go more direct to suit Benteke’s ability, this is a big gamble the club have taken.

Asmir Begovic

You are one of the best players in the league in your position and when you are in the prime of your career, you move to a big club and become their second choice player for that position. Begovic might have joined the Champions but that does not translate into guaranteed starts, we saw Petr Cech leave the club due to that. Begovic might still have the last laugh come the end of the season when he might be holding a few shiny medals but he would earn them for sitting on the bench rather than playing in the team.

Yohan Cabaye

The French midfielder was one of Newcastle’s best players playing under Alan Pardew and he threw a fit and left the club to join PSG. Well a few months later, he was not even in the first team and rarely made appearances for the club. He has now moved back to the Premier League with Pardew, who now manages Crystal Palace. Truth be told, this could either work brilliantly for Palace or end up being a disaster for both player and club, and with Cabaye going hot and cold more than a broken air conditioner, we are putting our money on the latter.
