Who Is This 24-Year Old Lyon Midfielder That Arsenal Are Interested In

Arsenal have now set their sights on another Lyon man and it isn’t Nabil Fekir but it is his teammates Rachid Ghezzal. Not many would know about the 24-year-old from Lyon but he too has had an on-off career at the Ligue 1 club.

Ghezzal was born on 9th May 1992 and has been part of the Lyon side from 2012 but he has been part of the youth team at the club since 2010 when he signed an elite contract with the Ligue 1 side.

The youngster was assigned the number 31 shirt by the former manager at the club, Remi Garde. The winger was set to make a big name for himself at the club but injuries have played a part in his stagnation in the French side.

Ghezzal did make his debut for the club, in the senior side, in a UEFA Champions League match against an Israeli club and it was a winning debut for the youngster as well as Lyon recorded a 4-3 victory.

The youngster can actually play for both France and Algeria but has often stated that he wants to represent the African nation in the future. His career took a bit of a hit when in 2014 he picked up a big injury and was out of action for almost six months.

Ghezzal didn’t even play a lot of football in 2015 but was given his chance of starting for the side from 2016 onwards. The French-Algerian has scored 11 times in 81 games for the Ligue 1 side and his best return has been 10 goals which came in the 2015-16 season.

He had scored 8 goals in the 2015-16 league campaign for Lyon, which was a pretty decent return seeing as to how he was coming back from injury as well.

The player is known for his dribbling ability and the knack of putting through balls for his teammates. He is also known to be good at set-pieces, which should be a great asset for any club that wants to sign him.

The 24-year-old isn’t the best when it comes to finishing, which is something that Arsenal fans will be used to so far thanks to Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud being in the team. His physical play isn’t that great as well and the Lyon star does lose out a lot of battles in the air, which won’t help him a lot in the Premier League if he does make it to the Arsenal side.

The French-Algerian player does like to get into a tackle and is also known for his tackling ability, which is great to know but he does like to link up and bring his teammates into play, which will certainly help him make him a prospect that could do well in the Premier League.

Arsenal might do extremely well if they do sign Ghezzal but he does not seem to be the kind of player that Arsenal need at the moment and this will certainly get a lot of people on Wenger’s back again.
